Selling a wrecked or broken Mazda CX-50

Mazda has filed seven recall campaigns on the CX-50 in four model years, and five of them land on the 2025. None is huge on its own. Several cover only a few hundred vehicles, and one covers two.

The CX-50 is still new, so most that reach us are wrecked, flooded or tied up in an insurance claim rather than worn out. Whatever happened to yours, you can sell the whole car as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

A US-built Mazda, one generation so far

Wikipedia says CX-50 production began on January 26, 2022, at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA plant in Huntsville, Alabama, next to the Toyota Corolla Cross. That made it Mazda's first US-built car in 10 years, since American assembly of the Mazda6 ended in 2012.

It is all-wheel drive. Gas models use a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four, with or without a turbo, and a 6-speed automatic. The hybrid uses an eCVT. EPA data lists it from 2023 to 2026 as a small SUV.

2023: brakes lead

The first year holds 63 of the 156 complaints owners have filed with NHTSA. Service brakes come first with 13, then the electrical system with 5. The 2023 also has 9 of the 16 crash reports.

Recall 23V275000 fits that pattern. The anti-lock brake system's hydraulic control unit may be damaged, which can reduce braking. Dealers inspect it and replace it as needed. The 2,410-vehicle campaign includes 2022-2023 CX-30s, so it is not a CX-50 count alone. A second 2023 recall, 23V135000, covers 560 vehicles with Mazda's accessory trailer hitch, whose wiring harness can come loose.

2024: body complaints

The 2024 has 33 complaints. Structure leads with 5, then electrical with 4 and forward collision avoidance with 3. Its one recall, 25V167000, covers 2024-2025 cars with Mazda's accessory hitch, whose mounting bolts can loosen. That campaign is 63 vehicles.

2025: five campaigns in one year

The 2025 has 47 complaints, with power train first at 11 and service brakes at 8. Its five recalls:

  • 25V737000, front suspension. Fastener bolts may not be tightened properly, which can lead to a suspension part or wheel coming off. 1,007 vehicles, 2025 CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid.
  • 24V649000, forward camera. A fault can stop automatic emergency braking and lane-keep from working. The 672-vehicle campaign also includes 2024 Mazda3 and CX-30 models.
  • 25V418000, hybrid shifter. The shifter can move from Neutral to Drive without the brake pedal. 22 vehicles. Dealers replace the engine control module.
  • 25V413000, air bag software. Module software may make the air bag deploy improperly. 2 vehicles, all still with Mazda dealers.
  • 25V167000, hitch bolts, the same campaign as the 2024.

2026: early days

13 complaints so far and no recall campaign listed as of October 10, 2026. Forward collision avoidance has 3; suspension and power train have 2 each.

NHTSA records by model year

We counted CX-50 complaints from NHTSA's files on October 10, 2026. Mazda only launched the CX-50 recently, so its newest years have few reports yet. A campaign that covers two years counts in both.

Repair it or sell it

On a car this new, the question is usually money tied up in it, not age.

  1. Recalls come first. Put your VIN into NHTSA's lookup. Recall work at a Mazda dealer is free.
  2. After a crash, let the insurer finish its estimate. If it declares a loss, see insurer totaled it. If you were paid and kept the car, keep the check, sell unrepaired explains how that works.
  3. Loan still open? Most CX-50s are financed. Still owe on the loan walks through a payoff when you sell.
  4. Hybrid won't go? See hybrid battery failed before you decide.

Selling the CX-50 whole

  1. Keep the VIN, the odometer number and a note on the damage handy, and the lender's name if you still owe on it.
  2. Request an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us where the car is: a body shop, a tow yard, your driveway. If it sits at a shop or yard, say so, because storage fees can add up.
  4. Don't strip anything off, and that means the wheels, the battery and the cameras too.
  5. At pickup, sign over the title, or the lender releases it after payoff. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask

Which CX-50 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The first CX-50, the 2023, tops the list at 63 complaints as of October 10, 2026. The 2025 has 47, the 2024 has 33 and the 2026 has 13. The 2026 hasn't been sold for long, so its small count doesn't tell you much so far.
What is the 2025 CX-50 front suspension recall?
Recall 25V737000 covers 2025 CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid vehicles whose front suspension fastener bolts may not be tightened properly. NHTSA says that can lead to a suspension part or a wheel coming off. Dealers inspect the bolts and replace and tighten them as needed, free of charge.
Will you buy a CX-50 that was in a crash?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, wrecked ones included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. If a lender still holds the title, tell us at the start.
Where is the CX-50 built?
US cars come from the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Wikipedia says production began there on January 26, 2022, Mazda's first US assembly since the Mazda6 ended in 2012.
