Complaints and recalls at a glance
GLB numbers taken from NHTSA complaints, current to October 10, 2026. The latest GLBs are still early, so their counts are small. A GLB campaign gets listed under every year it covers, so that column adds up past 25.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Injured | Recall campaigns | Top component |

| 2020 | 61 | 3 | 3 | 20 | Structure (14) |

2020: the launch-year body recalls
On the 2020, the top complaint component is structure, 14 of 61. The recalls line up with it:
- 20V480: the rear spoiler above the tailgate may not have been welded correctly, and parts of it could come off. The 10,644-vehicle campaign names only the 2020 GLB250.
- 21V231: the side spoilers on the tailgate might not have been installed correctly (2020-2021 GLB250, 2021 GLB35).
- 21V232: front wheel arch covers that could detach (2020-2021 GLB250).
- 21V403: water may enter through the wheel well area into the front foot wells and damage electrical components. Dealers seal the body and inspect the foot wells.
The electrical system is also in the 2020's top three, with 8 complaints. Recall 21V526 replaced a voltage converter after the second-row power outlet showed too much voltage, and 21V639 updated air bag control software on 66 cars.
One 2020 recall is about the chassis. Under 21V990, the integral carrier that supports the front axle may corrode and give way; dealers inspect and replace it as necessary. Its 38,312 vehicles include 2019-2020 A220s and 2021 AMG GLB35s, so that count is not the GLB250's alone.
2021-2023: the engine shows up
Engine is the top component on the 2021 (9 of 31) and the 2023 (5 of 12), and it leads the GLB overall with 22 complaints. Of the 18 campaigns itemized in our data, none is filed under the engine; seven more campaigns are counted but not itemized.
What the 2021 recalls do cover: an incorrect driver's air bag module on 50 GLB 250s (22V078), and a rear axle level sensor linkage that could throw off headlight leveling (22V314). On the 2022, forward collision avoidance leads with 3 of 12 complaints, and two crashes and two injuries are reported.
2024-2026, and a second generation
The newest GLBs have 7 complaints between them. Recall 24V780 replaced right-side tires with possible sidewall damage on 416 of the 2025 GLB 250, GLB 250 4MATIC and GLB 35 4MATIC. Recall 26V481 replaces the driver's door lock on 2020-2026 GLA and GLB models, among others; its 310,667 vehicles cover several model lines, and owner letters are expected September 18, 2026.
Per Wikipedia, the first generation (X247) used a 1.3-liter M282 or 2.0-liter M260 turbo four with a 7- or 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an EQ Boost mild hybrid. The second generation (X244) started production in January 2026 with a 1.5-liter M252 turbo hybrid and electric versions, replacing the EQB.
Fix it or sell it?
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. Most of these recall notices say the dealer repair is free of charge.
- Water in the footwells? Wet carpets on a 2020 can mean wiring trouble later. The electrical problems guide covers what to check.
- Engine trouble? Get a written diagnosis, then read blown engine before you approve a big quote.
- Weigh the quote against the car's value after repair. If the repair takes most of it, selling as is usually wins.
Selling a GLB whole
- Have the VIN and mileage handy, plus what's wrong and whether it rolls.
- Request an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us where the GLB sits: driveway, garage, street or a repair shop lot. The truck comes to the car.
- Sell the whole car as it sits. Leave the wheels, battery and parts on, and mention anything already taken off.
- Have the GLB title and a photo ID ready. If a lender still holds it, read lien still on the title.

Questions people ask
- Which GLB model years have the most NHTSA complaints?
- It's the 2020, at 61 complaints on October 10, 2026. The 2021 is at 31, while the 2022 and 2023 sit at 12 apiece. The 2024-2026 models are still young, so expect their small numbers to grow.
- My 2020 GLB had water in the front footwell. Is that a recall?
- Recall 21V403 covers certain 2020 GLB250s: water may get in through the wheel well area into the front foot wells and can damage electrical parts. At no charge, dealers seal that spot on the body, check the foot wells and fix them if needed. Enter your GLB's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy a GLB that won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Let us know it doesn't start, if it can be pushed, and where it is.
- Is there a new GLB?
- Wikipedia dates a second generation, the X244, from January 2026. It is built in Kecskemét, Hungary, with a 1.5-liter turbo hybrid and electric versions.
