Selling a broken or junk Mercedes-Benz GLC

Of the 752 owner complaints NHTSA has on this SUV, 141 are about the 2016, the first GLC year. No later year has more. Across all years, the engine is the component owners name most: 151 complaints. We pulled these GLC numbers from NHTSA on October 10, 2026. The latest GLC years are too new to have many yet.

What owners report, year by year

The GLC shows up in EPA data from 2016 through 2027. This GLC page has no generation dates, so the complaint data itself sets how the years below are grouped.

2016-2019: engine and brakes

These four years carry 404 complaints, more than half of the GLC total. The 2016 lists the engine (28) and service brakes (27) as its top two components. The 2017 and 2018 also lead with the engine, at 27 and 20. On the 2019, the electrical system moves to the top with 13.

Recall 18V177000 covers the rear seat belt latch plates on 2016-2018 GLCs, including the GLC300, GLC43 AMG, GLC63 AMG and GLC350e. Dealers install a buffer on the C-pillar paneling. Every model the campaign names is a GLC, and it counts 121,858 vehicles. Two other campaigns on these years reach well beyond the GLC: 17V114000 adds a fuse to the starter line (2016-2017), and 17V627000 adds grounding to the steering components (2016-2018). Their counts of 307,629 and 495,290 vehicles include the C-Class, CLA, GLA and other models.

2020-2022: the most recalls

The 2020 sits in 18 recall campaigns, more than any other GLC year. The engine leads its complaints (22) and the 2021's (26). The 2021 also lists 9 complaints about exterior lighting. Recall 24V070000 covers headlights that may be aimed too high on 2019-2022 GLC 300, 2020 GLC 350e and 2020-2022 AMG GLC 43 models, 15,502 vehicles in all. Dealers check the aim and correct it.

The 2022 breaks the pattern. Steering leads with 13 complaints, followed by fuel/propulsion (10) and the gasoline fuel system (8). Fuel pump recall 23V445000 lists 2021-2023 GLCs along with the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLE and others, so its 143,551 vehicles are not all GLCs. Dealers replace the pump.

2023-2026: electrical complaints

There are 147 complaints across these years, with electrical trouble on top for the 2023 (20 of 64) and the 2025 (21 of 44). Eleven complaints on the 2025 report an injury, and the one death in the GLC file is on a 2023.

Recall 25V379000 covers 2023-2025 GLCs with a panoramic sunroof: in some crashes the roof lining and C-pillar trim need changes, which dealers make. It names only GLC variants and counts 92,851 vehicles. Recall 26V481000 replaces the driver's door lock on 2023-2024 GLCs, with owner letters expected September 18, 2026. Its 310,667 vehicles also include the CLA, A-Class, C-Class, CLE, GLA and GLB. And 26V281000 fixes an infotainment unit that can reset while driving on 2025-2026 GLCs, a campaign of 144,049 that also covers the AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL and CLE.

Complaints and recalls for each GLC year

We took these GLC counts from NHTSA on October 10, 2026. Some campaigns span several years, so the campaign column adds up past 56. Two complaints are filed under 2015, a year EPA data does not list for the GLC.

Repair it or sell it?

Recalls come first. Check your GLC's VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup. The fuel pump, door lock, sunroof trim and seat belt campaigns above all say the dealer does the work free of charge, and none of that costs you anything to check.

Engine trouble leads in most GLC years. If that's your GLC's trouble, ask for a written quote and weigh it against a running GLC with close to your year and miles. When the two are close, selling beats fixing. Our blown engine guide walks through that call. For warning lights, dead screens and other wiring trouble on the later years, see electrical problems. If you just want to know what moves an offer on a broken car, read what a junk car is worth.

How to sell a GLC whole

  1. Have a few facts ready: VIN, miles, the problem, and if it starts or can be pushed.
  2. Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Say where it's parked. A GLC in a low-clearance parking garage needs a different truck than one in a driveway, so mention it.
  4. Leave the GLC whole. Its wheels, battery and catalytic converter stay on, and say if anything was pulled.
  5. For GLC pickup, have the title and your photo ID nearby. Keeping the GLC's plates depends on your state; after you sell explains.

No title? Start with the no-title guide. Looking at a different Mercedes-Benz? See the GLE-Class, GLK-Class or every Mercedes-Benz model we cover.

Questions people ask

Which GLC model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
It's the 2016, the first GLC year in EPA data, at 141 complaints as of October 10, 2026. Then comes the 2017 at 111 and the 2018 at 92. Recent GLCs are still early in their lives, so a small number on a 2024 or 2026 doesn't tell you everything.
Is the GLC fuel pump recall a reason to fix the car instead of selling it?
It can be. Recalls 23V445000 (2021-2023) and 23V880000 (2021-2024) cover fuel pumps on GLCs among other Mercedes models, and the recall notices say dealers replace the pump free of charge. Before deciding, put the GLC's VIN into nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will you buy a GLC that won't start or move?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Let us know your GLC won't run, if it rolls, and if it sits in a driveway or a parking garage.
