Selling an old or non-running Mitsubishi Expo
Every seat belt complaint filed on the Expo is on a 1992 or 1993 model: 31 of the 88 NHTSA had on file October 10, 2026. Recall 97V063001 lists those same two years. On the Expo, a faulty door latch switch could leave the shoulder belt anchor parked at the A-pillar once the door shut.

The Expo in brief
EPA lists the Expo for 1992-1996 as a midsize-large station wagon, under the names Expo and Expo.LRV. Wikipedia's Expo article places these years in its second generation (N30W/N40W), built 1991-1997 in Japan and related to the RVR. For that Expo generation it names two four-cylinders, a 1.8-liter and a 2.0-liter. The Expo followed the Galant wagon.
Known problems by year
1992-1993: belts and doors. These two years hold 57 complaints. Seat belts lead both: 23 of 44 on the 1992 and 8 of 13 on the 1993. The fix in 97V063001 was a new door latch switch. That campaign counts 38,948 vehicles and may include other models.
1994-1995: power train. Power train tops the list on the 1994 (12 of 18) and the 1995 (5 of 12). Recall 98V168000 lists all-wheel-drive Expos from 1992-1995: the transfer case can lock up from too little lubrication. Dealers check the oil volume and look for leaks. Campaign: 9,560 vehicles, which may cover other models.
1996: one complaint. The last year has a single complaint and recall 04V542000 for an upper radiator hose clamp that doesn't grip enough. That campaign covered 276 vehicles.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Yearly Expo complaint counts from NHTSA's file on October 10, 2026. The 1996 Expo is the youngest, so it has fewer years of reports.
| Model year | Complaints | Seat belts | Power train | Recalls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1992 | 44 | 23 | 6 | 2 |
| 1993 | 13 | 8 | 1 | 2 |
| 1994 | 18 | 0 | 12 | 1 |
| 1995 | 12 | 0 | 5 | 1 |
| 1996 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Repair the Expo, or let it go the way it is?
Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, then weigh any repair quote against what a running Expo of the same year brings. For a car past 30 years old, old or high mileage covers why age can settle it. If it has been parked for years, see sitting for years.
Selling the Expo? Keep its VIN, mileage and trouble handy, and mention if it has all-wheel drive. Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008. Say where your Expo is and if its wheels turn, and our truck goes right to it. Leave everything on it, and have the title ready at pickup. Plate rules are in after you sell.
