Selling a junk car in Camden
Camden gives a car that looks abandoned 48 hours. Under section 803-2 of the city code, when the Parking Authority or the Camden County Police Department, Metro Division, spots one, an official fixes a sticker to it stating that the car "shall be deemed to be abandoned and unclaimed if not removed within 48 hours." When those two days are up, a tow truck may follow.

If the car is yours and it no longer runs, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US, including a curb in Camden with a sticker already on the glass.
How the 48-hour process works
The code opens by calling any "motor vehicle which is unclaimed and/or abandoned within the City of Camden" a nuisance that "may be summarily abated by the removal thereof and impoundment thereof." Then it sets out the order of events:
- Before taking the car, the Parking Authority or the police must confirm whether it is reported stolen.
- The sticker goes on, and the 48-hour clock starts.
- If the owner has not moved it, the car may be taken "to a storage lot as designated by the Parking Authority" or the police.
- The taking is reported to the Director of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, and the state's notice rules begin once the car reaches the lot.
If your car is already gone, towed or impounded covers what to do next.
When the city goes for a junk title
Section 803-8 lets the city finish the job. When a towed car is found eligible for a junk title under N.J.S.A. 39:10A-3, the Parking Authority, the police or their agents may seek one from the Motor Vehicle Commission. The car is then sold or otherwise disposed of under state law. Across New Jersey, junk titles go only to cars that cannot run, or to cars whose repair to a safe state would outstrip their value.
Who may haul and store junk
Camden licenses the junk trade closely. Section 822-2 says no one licensed under that chapter may sell, trade or store "nonusable, abandoned or junk motor vehicles, except as provided in Chapter 467, Junkyards." Under section 467-7, a licensed junk collector gets one collection vehicle, pays $10 for each extra one, and must have "the name of the licensee in full and the address of the licensee's place of business" painted on the outside. The collector must carry the license and show it to police on demand.
Title office in Runnemede
No New Jersey title changes hands by post; it is an in-person job at an MVC agency. Runnemede hosts one Camden County Vehicle Center we checked, at 835 East Clements Bridge Rd, roughly 6 miles south of downtown Camden as the crow flies. There could be others.
Signing it over in New Jersey
Sign the reverse of the title where the seller's signature goes. The buyer then receives it together with a bill of sale that notes the price, when the sale happened, the mileage reading, and the buyer's full name plus address. A $25 penalty hits when a New Jersey title sits untransferred beyond 10 working days, and that part is the buyer's job. The plates stay off the sold car: hand them in at an agency, or move them to your next vehicle.

Getting an offer
Call (877) 421-6008 or send the online form. Include model and year, the mileage, whether the engine still catches, and whose name sits on the title. Got a sticker on it? Mention that, and the truck can come to the curb where it is parked.
Questions people ask
- There is a sticker on my car in Camden. How long do I have?
- Forty-eight hours. Section 803-2 has the sticker warn that the car will be treated as abandoned and unclaimed if it is still there after that, and then the Parking Authority or the Metro Division police may have it hauled to a lot they designate.
- Can the city get a junk title for my towed car?
- Yes, if the car qualifies. Section 803-8 lets the Parking Authority or the police seek a junk title from the Motor Vehicle Commission for a towed car that is eligible under N.J.S.A. 39:10A-3, and then sell or dispose of it under state law.
- Who can legally store junk cars in Camden?
- Section 822-2 bars licensees under that chapter from selling, trading or storing junk or abandoned vehicles except as Chapter 467, Junkyards, allows.
