Selling a junk car in Lindenwold
In Lindenwold, if the borough has to tow a junk car off private land, the bill can end up attached to the house. Chapter 339 of the borough code says that when the violator owns the property, removal and impound costs, plus fines, "shall become a lien upon his property." The same chapter bans keeping an abandoned or junk car out of doors at all.

Why Lindenwold bans outdoor junk cars
The borough wrote its reasons into the code. Section 339-1 finds that abandoned or stored cars "not currently in use for transportation, whether or not currently licensed or registered" are harmful because they "attract or may attract persons of tender years" who may play in them. Note the words "whether or not currently licensed or registered": current plates do not protect a car that never moves.
The rule itself is short: "It shall be unlawful for any person to store or permit to be stored on any property in the Borough of Lindenwold an abandoned or junk vehicle, as defined herein, out of doors." Section 339-3 adds that "Nothing herein contained shall be deemed to prohibit" keeping such a car "in an enclosed garage, barn or other building." The other borough rules below still reach any premises.
From the ten-day period to the lien
- A borough official finds the violation.
- "The Borough official shall reinspect said lands after the ten-day period shall have expired."
- If the car is still there, the official can have it removed "to a garage or place for impounding."
- To get it back, the owner first pays "the reasonable cost of removal and storage."
- For a property owner, those costs and any fines can become a lien on the land.
Other borough rules that reach dead cars
- Section 238-1 bars keeping motor vehicles "of every type and description deemed to be unsightly, objectionable" on any premises in the borough.
- Section 229-10 bars keeping a "dilapidated vehicle or junk which would be likely to endanger the health or safety of any person" on public or private property.
- Section 339-3 forbids repair work on public streets, parking lots and alleys outside an emergency. Even then the code wants the job "completed in less than 60 minutes" unless the police department grants extra time.
Title office and state paperwork
Lindenwold sellers cannot mail a title in; the transfer is done face to face at an MVC agency. One office we checked is in Runnemede on East Clements Bridge Rd, number 835; as the crow flies it is roughly 5 miles northwest of mid-borough. Camden County may offer others.
To sell, write your signature in the seller's space printed on the back of the title. Hand that over with a bill of sale covering the buyer (name and address), the sale day, miles on the odometer and price. There is a $25 penalty for transfers that slip past 10 working days. Plates never ride along with a sold car here; return them to an agency or switch them to another car. A replacement title is $60, appointment required; see junk car with no title.

Questions people ask
- Is outdoor storage of a junk car allowed anywhere in Lindenwold?
- No. The borough code makes it unlawful to store an abandoned or junk vehicle out of doors on any property. Chapter 339 does not bar keeping one in an enclosed garage, barn or other building, though sections 238-1 and 229-10 still apply to any premises.
- What happens if the borough tows my junk car?
- After the ten-day period, a borough official reinspects and can have the car removed to a garage or impound lot. Getting it back means first covering what the removal and storage cost. If you own the property, those costs and any fines can become a lien on it.
- Is it legal to work on a car at the curb in Lindenwold?
- Only to get a broken-down car going again, and the job has to be done in under an hour unless whoever is in charge of the police department allows more time.
