Selling a junk or dead car in Glassboro
Glassboro lets you keep one broken-down car outside, but only while you are really fixing it, and the code stops taking your word for it after 60 days. Section 442-2 says that if the car sits "for a continuous period of 60 days without being rendered operable and roadworthy, it shall be presumed that the owner or other person is not actively engaged in repairing" it. From then on it counts as an abandoned car on private property.

Section 442-2, rule by rule
Garaged cars are fine. "Any number of abandoned vehicles may be maintained so long as they are garaged and completely out of view."
One outdoor project car is allowed. "If mechanically inoperative and/or not garaged, one abandoned vehicle may be maintained only if the owner or other authorized person is actively engaged in repairing, restoring, rebuilding" it. A second dead car outside has no such allowance.
The 60-day presumption. Sixty straight days without the car becoming roadworthy and the borough presumes the work has stopped.
Public land is off limits. It is unlawful to abandon a vehicle on a borough street or highway, a municipal parking lot, borough property, or Board of Education property.
If a stalled restoration sounds familiar, old project car covers selling one before the parts scatter.
The 48-hour notice and what follows
When a car breaks those rules, the owner or lessee of the property must remove it "within 48 hours of written notice." The notice can come from the Glassboro Police Department, the Zoning Officer, a Code Enforcement Officer or another authorized borough official. If the car is still there, the same officials may remove it under the removal and sale steps in sections 442-3 and 442-4.
After an impound, section 442-3 has the police chief or another authorized official notify the registered owner in writing, "by personal service or by certified mail," within 10 days.
Title paperwork for a Glassboro sale
Every New Jersey transfer goes through an MVC agency counter; the state does not process them by mail. In a private sale the buyer is the one who goes. Your part: sign the title's back where the seller signs, and write out a bill of sale showing sale price, mileage, date, plus the buyer's name and street address. Ten working days after the sale, an untransferred New Jersey title draws a $25 penalty.
Plates and lost titles
Unbolt the plates first. The state wants them returned to an MVC agency or reused on another of your cars. If the title vanished somewhere during the project, $60 buys a duplicate; schedule a Vehicle Center visit and bring form OS/SS-UTA.

Getting an offer
Dial (877) 421-6008 or use the form, giving the model and its age, total miles, whether it cranks, which parts have come off, and where the title is. Glassboro pickups work from a driveway, a side yard or a friend's garage.
Questions people ask
- Is an outdoor project car allowed in Glassboro?
- One, if you are actively repairing it. Section 442-2 allows one mechanically inoperative car that is not garaged while the owner works to make it roadworthy. After 60 days in a row without that happening, the code presumes the work has stopped.
- What happens after Glassboro sends a notice about my car?
- The property owner or lessee has 48 hours from written notice to remove the car. If it stays, police, the Zoning Officer, a Code Enforcement Officer or another borough official can remove it under the procedures in sections 442-3 and 442-4.
- Will I be told if Glassboro impounds my car?
- Yes. Section 442-3 has the borough send the registered owner written notice, delivered by hand or by certified mail, no later than 10 days after the impoundment.
- Is a garaged dead car a problem in Glassboro?
- No. The code allows any number of abandoned vehicles as long as they are garaged and completely out of view.
