Selling a wrecked or broken Nissan Z
A 2023-or-newer Z with crash damage, a failed engine or a flooded interior can be sold as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. The car is so new that NHTSA holds just four owner complaints on it, so the checks worth making before you sell are its three recalls and anything Nissan may still cover.

What this Z is
The seventh-generation Z, code RZ34, replaced the 370Z on a revised version of that car's platform. Production started in April 2022 at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan, and the first cars were 2023 models. It was also the first U.S. Z sold without a number in its name.
Power comes from the 3.0-liter VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6, rated 400 hp and 350 lb-ft, 68 hp more than the 370Z. Drivers got a six-speed manual with an Exedy clutch or a nine-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Grades were Sport and Performance, plus a Proto Spec edition limited to 240 cars. The NISMO arrived in July 2023 with 420 hp and 384 lb-ft, and the 2026 Heritage Edition pays tribute to the 300ZX. The line goes back to 1969, when the Datsun 240Z debuted in New York City.
Recalls
- 23V725, October 2023: fasteners in the left front bumper reinforcement clip can loosen, which can stop the pop-up hood from rising in a pedestrian crash. 988 cars from 2023-2024.
- 24V798, October 2024: the right-side pedestrian sensor connectors may be swapped in the front bumper harness, with the same effect on the hood. 4,036 cars from 2023-2024.
- 22V671, September 2022: the transmission parking pawl may not engage when shifted into Park, so the car can roll away. It names 2023 Z cars along with the Titan and Frontier, and NHTSA files it under those trucks, so search by VIN rather than by model.
Complaints and recalls by model year
These Z numbers reflect NHTSA's records on October 10, 2026. None of the four complaints reports a crash, a fire or an injury.
| Model year | Complaints | Recall campaigns in the Z file |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 2 | 2 (plus 22V671, filed under the trucks) |
| 2024 | 2 | 2 |
| 2025-2027 | 0 | 0 |
Repair or sell?
On a car this new, ask two questions before deciding. First, is the failure covered? A Nissan dealer can check the VIN for open recalls and any coverage that still applies. Second, for crash damage, how does the repair estimate compare with the car's value? An insurer may call it a total loss; wrecked or totaled cars explains how states draw that line, and salvage title covers what a branded title means when you sell.
Selling the Z whole
Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008. Tell us the year, the grade (Sport, Performance, NISMO or a special edition), the transmission and the mileage, then describe the damage or failure. Say whether it rolls and where it's stored.
Leave it complete: wheels, seats, the whole drivetrain. Missing parts change the offer, so list anything already removed. If a lender still holds the title, say so up front.
Questions people ask
- What are the recalls on the 2023-2024 Nissan Z?
- Two cover the pop-up hood, which may not rise in a pedestrian crash: 23V725 for loose bumper clip fasteners (988 cars) and 24V798 for reversed sensor connectors (4,036 cars). A third, 22V671, names 2023 Z cars for a parking pawl that may not engage, so the car can roll away.
- Does the Nissan Z have common problems?
- Not on record yet. NHTSA has four owner complaints on it, two for 2023 and two for 2024, with no crashes, fires or injuries. That's far too few to point to a weak spot.
- Will you buy a Z that's been in a crash?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, wrecks included, and you sell the whole car as it sits. Free pickup anywhere in the US.
