Selling a broken or wrecked Polestar 2

NHTSA holds 593 complaints on the Polestar 2. Of those, 393 fall under back over prevention, which is the rearview camera. Roughly two in three. Three of the car's seven recalls deal with the same camera image.

If a crash, a battery that won't charge or a car that won't power up has left your Polestar 2 parked, you can sell it as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

Known problems by model year

The EPA lists the Polestar 2 from 2021 through 2025 as a midsize electric car, in Single Motor, Dual Motor and Performance Pack versions. Every count here was tallied from NHTSA's complaint download dated October 10, 2026.

2021-2022: the early cars

These two years hold 452 of the 593 complaints, and 298 of those name back over prevention. The 2022 alone has 305 complaints, more than any other year, including 36 that name the electrical system. On the 2021, 12 complaints name visibility and wipers.

Recall 21V110 covers 2021-2022 cars. The battery energy control module's microprocessor may reset, and the high-voltage system can disconnect. Polestar 2 owners get the fix as free software, either at a dealer or over the air. The campaign counts 3,457 vehicles.

2023: one odd recall

The 2023 has 116 complaints, 83 of them about back over prevention, and 2 owners reported injuries. Recall 23V476 is small, at 3 vehicles in the campaign: the front left lower ball joint may have been installed wrong, letting the control arm come loose from the steering knuckle. Dealers inspect it and replace the fastening bolt for free.

2024-2025: fewer complaints so far

The 2024 has 24 complaints and the 2025 has 1. These cars are newer and have had less time to collect them. On the 2024, 11 name back over prevention, 4 the electrical system and 3 the tires. Recall 24V939 covers 7 vehicles whose driver's side inner far side air bag may have badly crimped clamps; dealers replace it.

Recall 25V409 reaches back to the 2021 as well. Coasting downhill in One Pedal Drive, the car may lose brake function. Polestar 2 owners should skip One Pedal Drive until the over-the-air update has gone in, the company says. That campaign lists 2 vehicles.

The camera recalls

Three campaigns cover the rearview image. 24V477 (2021-2024, 25,825 vehicles in the campaign) fixes infotainment software over the air. 25V280 and 25V615 (2021-2025, 27,816 vehicles each) are dealer software updates; letters for the second went out June 4, 2026. Those vehicle counts are for each whole campaign.

No fires or deaths appear in any year. Owners reported 4 injuries in all, 2 on the 2023 and 2 on the 2024.

Fix it or sell it?

Put two figures side by side: the shop's estimate, and the price a repaired Polestar 2 of your year and mileage fetches. A narrow gap favors selling unrepaired.

  1. Start with recalls. Paste the VIN into NHTSA's lookup; NHTSA lists six of the seven Polestar 2 remedies at no charge; the 25V409 entry gives no cost.
  2. Rearview camera image not showing? Three recalls cover that, with software remedies. Ask a Polestar service point before writing anything off. More on that in our open recall guide.
  3. Won't charge or won't power on? Start with a diagnosis. Our EV battery guide and electrical problems guide explain how to weigh it.
  4. Crash damage? If the insurer totaled it, read insurer totaled it. If you're keeping the check, see keep the check, sell unrepaired.

Selling your Polestar 2 whole

  1. Note the basics: VIN, odometer reading, the fault, and whether the center screen lights up.
  2. Get a Polestar 2 offer right here, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Describe the spot: garage, carport, collision shop. Let us know if your Polestar 2 can roll and be put in Neutral, since that shapes how we load it. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
  4. Sell the whole car as it sits. Wheels, charging cable and battery pack all stay. If something's already gone, say so.
  5. Loan still open? Read still owe on the loan. On Polestar 2 pickup day, have your title and ID close by.

Questions people ask

Which Polestar 2 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2022, at 305 in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 count. Next come the 2021 with 147 and the 2023 with 116. The 2024 (24) and 2025 (1) are younger cars with a shorter time on the road, which keeps their totals down.
Is the blank rearview camera on my Polestar 2 covered by a recall?
Possibly. Three campaigns deal with the camera image: 24V477 (2021-2024), 25V280 and 25V615 (both 2021-2025). The listed remedies are free software updates. Whether one covers a given car, and whether it is still open, shows up once its VIN goes into nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What does the One Pedal Drive recall say?
Recall 25V409 covers some 2021 and 2024 Polestar 2s. Coasting down a hill in One Pedal Drive, the car may lose brake function. Until the over-the-air update lands, Polestar says to leave One Pedal Drive switched off.
Will you buy a Polestar 2 that won't power on?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention the dark screen and the parking spot in your offer request.
