Selling a wrecked or dead Subaru Uncharted

Exterior lighting shows up in 31 of the 40 Uncharted complaints owners have sent to NHTSA. That is more than three in four, on a car that went into production in September 2025. If yours has a lighting or electrical fault, or a crash has left it undrivable, you can sell it without fixing it.

A Subaru built by Toyota

The Uncharted is a battery electric compact crossover. Wikipedia lists Toyota as its manufacturer, with assembly at the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Aichi. It sits on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, shared with the Toyota bZ4X and bZ, the Subaru Solterra and the Subaru Trailseeker.

It comes two ways: one front motor driving the front wheels, or two motors for all-wheel drive. An eAxle replaces a conventional transmission. The battery is 57.7 to 77.0 kWh, and Wikipedia gives claimed ranges of 283 to 373 miles for front-drive cars and 326 miles for all-wheel drive. EPA files list three versions: Uncharted, Uncharted AWD and Uncharted 20 inch AWD, for 2026 and 2027.

What owners have reported so far

So far only the 2026 model year has complaints on file. Here is the tally from NHTSA's complaint records, taken on October 10, 2026:

  • Exterior lighting: 31 complaints
  • Electrical system: 6
  • Unknown or other: 2
  • Engine: 1 (NHTSA's category name, on a car with no engine)

Not one of the 40 mentions a crash, fire, injury or tow. NHTSA lists no recall campaigns for the Uncharted. With a car this new, small numbers mean little either way. Production began in September 2025, so a younger model year starts its count later; no 2027 filings appear so far.

Repair it or sell it?

An Uncharted is still young, so the question usually comes after a crash or a big electrical fault, not wear.

  1. Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. A campaign could appear after this page was written.
  2. Lights or warnings acting up? Ask a Subaru dealer what the car is still covered for before you pay for anything. Our electrical problems guide covers how to weigh it.
  3. Battery trouble? See EV battery failed for the questions to ask first.
  4. Crash damage? If the insurer totals it, read insurer totaled it. If you are keeping the check and the car, see keep the check, sell unrepaired.

Selling an Uncharted whole

  1. Keep the VIN and the miles on the dash nearby, along with a quick list of what's broken. Note if the screen lights up and if the wheels turn.
  2. Call (877) 421-6008 or ask for an offer online.
  3. Describe the spot: home garage, street, collision center or storage lot. The truck comes to it, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
  4. Keep it complete. The pack, wheels and lamps stay on the car.
  5. Sort the paperwork. If there is a loan or lease on it, see still owe on the loan or leased car. After pickup, after you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask

Which part of the Uncharted draws the most owner complaints?
Exterior lighting. NHTSA held 40 owner complaints on the 2026 Uncharted as of October 10, 2026, and 31 of them name exterior lighting. The electrical system comes next with 6. The model is new, so these counts have had little time to build up.
Does the Subaru Uncharted have any recalls?
NHTSA listed no recall campaigns for the Uncharted in our October 10, 2026 pull. That can change at any time, so run your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls first.
Who actually builds the Uncharted?
Toyota. Wikipedia lists Toyota as the manufacturer and the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Aichi, as the assembly site. It rides on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, shared with the Toyota bZ4X and the Subaru Solterra.
Will you buy an Uncharted that was in a crash and won't drive?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and you sell the whole car as it sits. Pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us what's damaged, if it can roll, and the address it's parked at.
