Selling a dead car in Murray
Snow gives a Murray car at the curb just sixty minutes. Section 10.08.030 makes it unlawful "to park, leave or abandon a motor vehicle on any streets after one hour from the commencement of snowfall until the completion of snow removal operations on the street," and says a car in violation "may be impounded." A car that will not start cannot beat that hour.

Three days at most
Even in dry weather, Murray caps street parking. Section 10.08.020 states that "a person may not park a vehicle upon a street in excess of seventy two (72) consecutive hours," and that "a police officer may remove or cause to be removed to a place of safety any unattended vehicle" left in breach. Pushing a dead car to the curb only buys three days.
Private lots and the zoning code
The Murray sections we found govern streets, not junk cars on private land, so the city may have other rules we did not see. Its zoning definitions still say a lot: a parking lot exists to hold "four (4) or more operable and licensed motor vehicles," and another definition in the same section expressly excludes "junk, debris, impounded vehicles or inoperable vehicles." By that wording, a parking lot is meant for cars that run and carry plates.
Utah law fills the gap with its seven-day rule for a car left "on public or private property for a period in excess of seven days without express or implied consent." If it has been towed already, start with towed or impounded.
Four miles to a title office
Titles here come from the state Motor Vehicle Division. We checked an office in Taylorsville at Suite 1200, 4315 South 2700 West (801-297-7780), roughly 4 miles northwest of central Murray in a straight line.
To sell, sign the title; no notary is involved. A car younger than 20 years also needs the TC-891 odometer statement from you and the buyer, while older ones skip it. You have 48 hours after the sale to get the title to the buyer in Utah. A bill of sale supports the transfer, and you may use TC-843 for it.
Murray sellers keep the plate unless it is going to the buyer with the car. That way a new driver's tickets never come back to you. A Murray seller can report the sale online or call 1-800-DMV-UTAH. Another option for Murray owners is a signed, mailed letter giving the car's plate or VIN along with its year and make. The Utah page and after you sell have the details.

Getting an offer
Call (877) 421-6008 or fill out the form. Give the model year, brand and model, odometer, whether it starts and how the title looks. If it is on the street with a storm in the forecast, mention that; the truck heads to the car where it sits.
Questions people ask
- What is Murray's street parking limit for a stalled car?
- Under Section 10.08.020, no vehicle may sit on a street past 72 consecutive hours. Police may remove an unattended one that breaks this rule.
- In snow season, may a dead car stay parked on a Murray street?
- No. From one hour after snowfall begins until snow removal on that street is finished, Section 10.08.030 makes parking, leaving or abandoning a car there unlawful, and the car may be impounded.
- Is an odometer form required for a 20-year-old car in Utah?
- No. Utah drops the TC-891 odometer statement once a car reaches 20 years; younger cars need both the owner's and the buyer's signatures on it.
