Selling a dead or damaged VinFast

VinFast is one of the youngest brands on this site. Its first model in the EPA list is the 2023 VF 8, so every VinFast in the US is only a few years old. That shapes everything below, from the complaint counts to the model list.

From a Vietnamese conglomerate to a US listing

VinFast was founded in June 2017 by Phạm Nhật Vượng. Its parent is Vingroup, and its headquarters sit in the Đình Vũ – Cát Hải Economic Zone in Haiphong, Vietnam, according to Wikipedia's VinFast article.

It grew fast at home. In the first quarter of 2020, VinFast was the fifth best-selling car brand in Vietnam. The same year it announced a loss of VND 6.6 trillion, about $284 million, for the first half.

In April 2022, VinFast said it planned an initial public offering through a holding company based in Singapore. It moved its legal and financial headquarters there, while Vietnam stayed its operational base. Wikipedia files that period under "Move to Singapore and Nasdaq listing (2022–2023)."

Outside Vietnam, the company has built in Asia first:

• India: a plant in Tamil Nadu was inaugurated on 4 August 2025, with a design capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles a year.
• Indonesia: construction of a $200 million plant in Subang, West Java, began in July 2024. It was inaugurated on 15 December 2025, 17 months later, as VinFast's first overseas production base in Southeast Asia.

Wikipedia's sources also include North Carolina's 2022 announcement that VinFast had chosen the state for an electric vehicle assembly plant, and a later report that VinFast was considering delaying that $4 billion US plant.

How the 65 complaints split across four models

Below, every VinFast model has its own row, with the owner complaints NHTSA had received through October 10, 2026.

The VF 8 holds 63 of the 65. That lopsided split follows the calendar as much as anything: the VF 8 reached the US first, so it has had the most time and the most owners to file. A 2025 or 2026 VinFast has simply been on US roads for fewer months, and the VF 6 and VF 7 are the newest of all. A count of zero means nobody has filed yet, not that a car has been rated.

These are owner reports to a federal safety agency. They are not a reliability score, and a small brand's numbers move a lot with a handful of filings.

What every VinFast here has in common

All four share one short window: no VinFast in the EPA list is older than the 2023 model year. Wikipedia files VinFast under battery electric vehicle manufacturers. So a dead VinFast is a young electric car, and an EV that will not power on cannot be driven onto a trailer; it has to be winched or carried. Selling a VinFast whole

Leave the car together. The battery, wheels and screens all go with it.

1. Write down which VF it is, its year and the odometer reading, if the screen still lights up.
2. Say whether it powers on, whether it drives, and what is damaged.
3. Say whether you have the title. If a lender or leasing company still holds it, see still owe on the loan or leased car.
4. Give us the address of the car and say if it is in a body shop or a parking garage.

Once it is gone, handle the plates and the paperwork.
