Selling a damaged or dead Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Volkswagen recalled 2025 ID. Buzz vans because the third-row bench is wide enough for three people but has only two seat belts. That recall, and a software fix for a brake warning light, are the only two campaigns on file. Owners have sent NHTSA 16 complaints.

The van in brief

Wikipedia calls the ID. Buzz a battery electric minivan built on Volkswagen's MEB platform, in production since June 2022 and assembled in Hanover, Germany. The rear-wheel-drive version carries an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery with 77 kWh usable. It comes in two lengths: a 117.6-inch wheelbase and a longer 127.5-inch one.

EPA's data lists only the 2025 model year, in two versions: the ID. Buzz and the ID. Buzz 4motion.

What owners have told NHTSA

These counts were taken on October 10, 2026, from the owner reports NHTSA keeps. Each one is what a single owner chose to write in, not a verdict on the van. A 2025 van hasn't been with owners long, so recent years like this one start with low counts.

Across all 16, the next most named are back over prevention (2), vehicle speed control (2) and forward collision avoidance (1). Zero fires, injuries, deaths or tows appear in them.

Recall 25V233: the brake warning light

Reported April 10, 2025. On some 2025 vans, the brake system warning light on the instrument panel may show the wrong symbol and color. Dealers update the instrument panel software free of charge. Owner letters went out June 6, 2025. The campaign covers 5,637 vehicles, which NHTSA's notice describes as certain 2025 ID. Buzz vans. It sits under the electrical system, the second most named component in owner complaints.

Recall 25V269: two belts on a three-wide bench

Reported May 15, 2025. Dealers install trim that narrows the third-row seats, free of charge. Letters went out June 20, 2025. The campaign counts 5,644 vehicles.

Repair it, or let it go?

  1. Recalls come first. Run the VIN through NHTSA's lookup. Both fixes are free at a Volkswagen dealer.
  2. Battery or high-voltage fault? Ask a Volkswagen dealer what coverage your VIN still has before you pay for anything. Our EV battery guide walks through the choice.
  3. Crash damage? If the insurer totals a van this new, see insurer totaled it, or keep the check and sell it unrepaired if they let you keep it.
  4. Still making payments? If there's a loan or lease on it, read still owe on the loan or leased car before you sign anything over.

Selling it whole

  1. Jot down the van's VIN and mileage, plus what's wrong and whether your ID. Buzz can be pushed.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Say where it sits. Mention if it's the long-wheelbase van and whether it's in a tight garage, so the driver brings the right truck. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
  4. Keep the battery pack and wheels on the van. If something is already off, say so.
  5. When the truck arrives, the title and your ID are what's needed. After you sell covers plates and insurance by state.
