Selling an Audi e-tron GT with battery or electrical trouble
Four of the 15 recall campaigns on the Audi e-tron GT deal with its high-voltage battery, and two of them told owners to stop charging past 80% until a dealer fixed the car. If yours has a battery warning, won't charge or won't power up, that history is the first thing to look at.

The battery, the struts and the brake hoses
Wikipedia describes the e-tron GT as a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive executive car on the J1 platform, related to the Porsche Taycan. It carries a 93.4 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, 84 kWh of it usable. Production started in December 2020 at Audi's Böllinger Höfe site in Heilbronn, which made it the first Audi electric car built in Germany.
2022-2024: where nearly every recall sits
The battery campaigns:
- 23V613000 (2023 cars, 1,899 vehicles): the battery may have too little sealant, which can let liquid collect inside. Dealers test for leaks and replace the battery as needed.
- 24V228000 (2022-2024, 1,009 vehicles) and 24V229000 (2022-2023, 33 vehicles): a short circuit can develop inside the battery modules. Audi asked owners to cap charging at 80% while they waited.
- 24V726000 (2022-2024, 6,499 vehicles): the same short-circuit risk, with advanced diagnostic software as the final remedy.
The air suspension is the second thread. Three campaigns cover a retaining ring on top of the strut that may come loose and let air out of the strut spring: 21V935000 (2022, 10 vehicles), 22V927000 (2022, 96 vehicles) and 25V428000 (2025, 8 vehicles). Recall 24V465000 replaces front axle brake hoses that can tear and leak on 2022-2024 cars (9,653 vehicles).
Owner complaints point at wiring more than the battery. Of the 29 filed with NHTSA, 13 name the electrical system, and 10 of those are on the 2023. The 2022's most-named component is the power train, 5 of its 11. Two complaints on the 2023 report a fire, and two on the 2024 report a crash.
2025-2027: too new to judge
One complaint so far, on a 2026, naming the suspension. None on the 2025 or 2027. Cars this young have barely begun to build a record with NHTSA, so read that as early data.
Some campaigns are not about the e-tron GT alone. The rearview camera software recalls 22V742000 (170,296 vehicles) and 25V900000 (356,894), the infotainment unit recall 22V806000 (6,076) and the charging cable advisory 23V842000 (93,196) each cover many Audi models. Those counts are whole-campaign totals, not e-tron GT sales.
NHTSA complaints and recalls by year
Owner complaint totals are NHTSA's as of October 10, 2026. If a recall covers three e-tron GT model years, it appears in each of those rows.
| Model year | Complaints | Fire / crash reports | Recall campaigns | Most-named component |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 11 | 0 / 0 | 13 | Power train (5) |
| 2023 | 15 | 2 / 0 | 8 | Electrical system (10) |
| 2024 | 2 | 0 / 2 | 5 | Service brakes; forward collision avoidance |
| 2025 | 0 | 0 / 0 | 25V428000, 25V900000 | None filed |
| 2026 | 1 | 0 / 0 | 1 | Suspension |
| 2027 | 0 | 0 / 0 | None listed | None filed |
Repair it or sell it?
Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. Clear any open recall before anyone quotes a repair.
If the recalls are done and the car still won't charge or won't drive, get the diagnosis in writing. Then hold that quote up against the price of a running e-tron GT with similar miles. The EV battery guide covers what to ask about a high-voltage pack. Electrical problems covers the wiring side, where most owner complaints on this car point.
If an insurer has already written it off after a crash or a fire, see insurer totaled it.
Selling it whole
You sell the whole car as it sits. Leave the wheels, the charging cables and everything else on it.
- Note the VIN, the mileage, any warning on the dash, and whether the car powers up.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe where the e-tron GT is, such as a dealer's service lot or a home garage, and whether its wheels turn, so the driver brings the right gear.
- At pickup, give the driver the e-tron GT's title and show a photo ID. State rules decide if you keep the plates; see after you sell.
Questions people ask
- Which e-tron GT year drew the most owner complaints?
- The 2023: 15 of the 29 on file in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 count, and 10 of that 15 cite the electrical system. A 2024 or later e-tron GT has had fewer years in service, which is part of why its list is short.
- Is there a recall on the e-tron GT battery?
- Four. Recall 23V613000 covers 2023 cars whose battery may lack sealant. Recalls 24V228000 (2022-2024) and 24V229000 (2022-2023) cover a possible short circuit inside the battery modules, and Audi told owners to stop charging at 80% while they wait for the fix. Recall 24V726000 covers the same risk on 2022-2024 cars, with diagnostic software as the final remedy. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Does the portable charging cable recall apply to my e-tron GT?
- It can. Recall 23V842000 lists 2022-2024 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT cars among many other Audis, 93,196 vehicles across the whole campaign. The advice: don't use the 220V/240V compact cable, and charge only from the 110V home cable or a public station.
- Will you buy an e-tron GT that won't power on?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Do the e-tron GT's screens light up? Can it roll? And is it in a garage, driveway or lot? Those help us plan.
