Selling a broken or wrecked BMW i7

The 2023 i7, the first electric 7 Series, is listed in 13 recall campaigns. Yet owners logged only 8 complaints with NHTSA about that year by October 10, 2026. The bulk of those campaigns are small first-year fixes, but a few touch the battery, the drive motor and the brakes.

One campaign frequently reaches across several years. The 2025 complaint reports one injury. The 2025 and 2026 have only been on the road a short while, so their counts will likely grow.

What the recalls cover

There is one generation so far. Wikipedia places the i7 in the seventh-generation 7 Series, in production since July 2022 and assembled in Dingolfing alongside the gas 7 Series. The eDrive50 has one rear motor; the xDrive60 and M70 have two.

First-year fixes on the 2023

Five campaigns hit early cars only. The emergency call unit may not send the car's location to responders (22V860000, 169 vehicles). On cars with the Executive Lounge seats, a seat control unit needed new software (23V050000, 397). Front seat length adjusters may not have been welded right (23V414000, 318). The Interaction Bar on the dash needed replacing (23V479000, 384). The wipers may stop working in some weather (23V644000, 3,820).

Battery and drive power

Three campaigns reach the high-voltage system. 22V944000 updated the battery control software (14,086 vehicles, mostly iX and i4). 25V470000 swaps battery cell modules that might have been put together wrong (136 vehicles). 25V395000 targets drive motor software; on affected 2023-2024 cars the high-voltage system can switch off and the car stops pulling. That campaign's 71,286 vehicles take in the i4, iX and i5 as well.

Brakes, steering and wiring

The integrated brake system appears in four campaigns. The largest, 24V104000, reaches 266,716 vehicles from BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce; 24V739000, 24V697000 and 26V422000 are far smaller. Service brakes are also the top complaint, at 6. Recall 24V714000 replaces a steering spindle joint. 23V700000 fixes a camera ground, and 26V096000 replaces an air conditioning wiring harness.

Worth fixing?

  1. Enter the VIN in NHTSA's recall search. Open campaigns are fixed at no charge.
  2. Battery warning or no drive? Read EV battery failed before you approve a pack.
  3. Brake or stability warnings? See bad or seized brakes and electrical problems.
  4. Then compare the repair estimate with what a working i7 of that year sells for.

Selling an i7 as one piece

  1. Note the VIN, mileage and any warning on the screen.
  2. Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Say where it is parked and whether it powers on and rolls.
  4. Keep it complete, battery and wheels included.
  5. At pickup, have the title, ID and keys ready. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask

Why does the 2023 i7 have so many recalls?
It was the first year. Of the 15 campaigns that name the i7, 13 list the 2023. Several are small first-year fixes: seats, wipers, the Interaction Bar and the emergency call unit. Each has a free dealer remedy.
Which i7 year has the most complaints?
The 2024, with 15 of 25 as of October 10, 2026. Service brakes lead at 4. The 2025 and 2026 i7 have one apiece, and both are too new for owners to have reported much.
Will you buy an i7 with a battery or drive fault?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Leave the battery in and tell us what the dash shows.
Are all the vehicles in a recall count i7s?
No. Most campaigns cover other BMWs too. Brake campaign 24V104000 covers 266,716 vehicles, spread over BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce models.
