Selling a damaged or dead BMW M2
Lights, not engines, fill the M2's NHTSA file. Exterior lighting is named in 19 of the 30 complaints owners have filed, and 14 of those are on the 2017. Not one of the 30 mentions a crash, fire, injury or tow.

So an M2 that has stopped running usually got there some other way: a crash, a blown engine, a car that sat. You can sell it as it is. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
First generation (F87): 2016-2021
Wikipedia says the first M2 was built in Leipzig from 2016 to 2021, related to the F22 2 Series and following the 1 Series M Coupe. The base car used a 3.0-liter N55 turbo six; the Competition and CS used the S55 twin-turbo six. Buyers got either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch.
These years hold 28 of the 30 complaints. Five recalls reach them:
- 16V653 (2016): dealers replaced rear sub-frame bolts, in a campaign of 196 shared with the M3 and M4.
- 17V719 (2018): instrument panel software that could affect the display was updated.
- 19V352 (2019-2020 Competition): knee air bag modules replaced.
- 20V666 (2020-2021): fuel injectors that may lack a damping part are inspected, with injectors and fuel rail replaced if so. It covers 21 vehicles across the M2 and M4.
- 21V554 (2021): seat belt retractors inspected.
The bigger campaigns span the 2 Series, 4 Series and X3, so their counts, such as 21,537 for 21V554, are not M2 numbers.
Second generation (G87): 2023 on
Wikipedia says the current M2 has been built in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, since 2023, on the CLAR platform with the S58 twin-turbo six and a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic. Wikipedia's production years skip 2022. Two complaints are on file so far, one each on the 2023 and 2024. Being new, these cars have had little time on the road. Recall 23V099 updated control unit software on 2023 cars.

Fix it or sell it?
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup for anything still open.
- Lighting or module faults? The electrical problems guide helps decide when to stop.
- Got a 2016-2021 with a failing DCT? See dual-clutch trouble, then compare a written quote with what a working M2 of that year sells for.
