This truck is new, so its NHTSA record is short: 46 complaints and nine recalls. Read the recalls first. Two of them replace a drive unit or the whole battery for free.
What sets this truck apart
Chevrolet showed the Silverado EV in January 2022 and built the first ones in May 2023, for fleet buyers only, at Factory Zero in Detroit-Hamtramck. Despite the name, it shares no underpinnings with the gas Silverado. It sits on a narrower version of the Hummer EV's BT1 electric platform. Ultium packs come in 119, 170 and 205 kWh sizes.
Range depends on pack and year. EPA lists 450 and 393 miles for two 2024 versions, 282 and 492 miles for the 2025 2WT and 8WT, and 286, 424 and 493 miles for the 2026 Standard, Extended and Max Range Work Trucks.
Every recall so far
NHTSA lists nine campaigns as of October 10, 2026. The vehicle counts are whole campaigns, which often include GMC or Cadillac models.
- 23V786 (2024): front seat belt buckle bolts that may not be tight. 115 vehicles, with the GMC Hummer EV.
- 24V087 (2024): the wrong bezel on the rear center belt can tear it in a crash. 338 Silverado EVs. The recall notice says to keep that seat empty until the bezel is replaced.
- 24V320 (2024): poorly insulated rear drive unit motor wires can touch each other and cut drive power. Dealers replace the rear drive unit. 10 vehicles across five GM EVs.
- 25V015 (2024): a loose rear center belt bolt. 5 trucks, with the Sierra EV, all still in dealer stock.
- 24V937 (2025): the pedestrian warning sound on some Work Trucks is too quiet. 46 trucks, fixed with body control software.
- 25V594 (2026): after a stability control fault, the warning light may stay off at the next start. 1,191 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks, updated at a dealer or over the air.
- 26V494 (2026): a part inside the high voltage battery may not be secured, which can damage the pack and raise the risk of fire. Dealers replace the battery. 11 vehicles across Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet.
- 26V496 (2026): steel wheels can crack at the disc vent holes. 952 trucks with the Sierra EV; NHTSA files it under the spare wheel and tire.
- 26V114 (2026): a GM-wide campaign to load the electronic owner's manual.
Complaints by model year
| Model year | Complaints | Recalls |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 25 | 4 |
| 2025 | 14 | 1 |
| 2026 | 7 | 4 |
That is too few complaints to show a pattern. They include 3 that report a crash and none that report a fire.
Repair or sell, and how pickup works
Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall search first, because a drive unit or battery recall changes the math completely. After a crash, compare the body shop's written estimate with what an undamaged Silverado EV of the same trim is selling for. If it's close, sell the truck whole.
- Collect the details: VIN, trim, battery size if you know it, mileage, and any warnings on the dash.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where the truck is parked, whether that's a fleet yard, a body shop, a street or a driveway. Mention whether it powers on and rolls in Neutral.
- Leave it complete, with the wheels on and the charge cord in the truck if you have one.
- Pickup day: the driver collects the title and keys and checks your photo ID. If the title carries a brand after an insurance claim, read salvage title first.
