A Chrysler built on Mercedes parts
Wikipedia lists DaimlerChrysler as the maker and Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, as the assembler. The car sits on the Chrysler ZH platform, shared with the Mercedes-Benz R170, and is related to the first Mercedes SLK. Power came from a 3.2-liter Mercedes-Benz M112 V6, or a supercharged version of it in the SRT-6. Transmissions: 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual.
Production ran from February 2003 to December 2007, 76,014 cars in all. Chrysler dropped the Crossfire after the 2008 model year during its restructuring, and the last one was built on 17 December 2007. The EPA lists it as a two-seater in coupe and roadster form.
What owners filed with NHTSA, year by year
These are complaints owners sent NHTSA, counted as of October 10, 2026. Read them as owner reports, not a reliability score. Also, the 2007 and 2008 cars have been around a few years less than the 2004.
2004. The first year drew 109 complaints, and 41 name the electrical system. Power train and engine follow at 11 each.
2005. The peak by far. Visibility (115), structure (105) and visibility/wiper (68) top the list, so the complaints cluster around the glass, wipers and body rather than the drivetrain. Only 4 report a crash.
2006. Down to 74 complaints, with structure (26) and the wiper categories (18 each) still on top.
2007-2008. Air bags move to the top: 26 of 52 complaints on the 2007 and 17 of 39 on the 2008. Those are the two years in the Crossfire's only recall.
The one recall: 16V081
Campaign 16V081 covers the driver's frontal air bag inflator module on 2007-2008 Crossfires. NHTSA's record shows Mercedes-Benz USA filing it for a list of its own models, with Fiat Chrysler notifying Chrysler owners and dealers replacing the part. The 711,159 vehicles counted are the whole campaign, and most are Mercedes-Benz models, not Crossfires.
If you have a 2007 or 2008, check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and ask a Chrysler dealer whether it's done. Our open recall guide explains how an unfinished recall affects a sale.

Keep fixing it, or sell?
A Crossfire's engine, gearbox and platform come from Mercedes-Benz, so get a written quote before you assume a repair is routine. Then set it beside the price running Crossfires with similar miles bring.
- Electrical trouble on a 2004: that year's file leans electrical. The electrical problems guide covers the fix-or-sell call.
- Engine or gearbox gone: see blown engine or bad transmission.
- Air bag light on a 2007-2008: rule out the open recall first.
Selling it whole
- Keep the Crossfire's VIN and mileage handy, and know if it's a coupe or a roadster.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where it sits and if it can roll. A low two-seater in a tight garage is useful to know about before the truck arrives.
- Don't strip it first; wheels and catalytic converters stay on. Mention any part that's gone.
- Bring the title and keys to pickup. No title? Read selling with no title.
