Before and after the 2006 facelift

Wikipedia gives the PT Cruiser one generation, built from 2000 to 2010 in Toluca, Mexico, with a facelift for the 2006 model year. A turbocharged GT arrived for 2003. The convertible and the High Output engine were dropped for 2008. PT Cruiser owners sent these reports to NHTSA through October 10, 2026. Don't read them as a reliability score. The last few model years also had fewer years of use in which to draw them.

2001-2005: fuel, steering and the early-build fixes

Five of the nine campaigns touch the 2001. Two deal with fuel. Recall 02V214000 says the fuel supply line on 2001 cars could rub against the air-conditioning service port and leak. Recall 02V215000 adds a second seal to the fuel pump module on 2001-2002 cars, whose flange could leak fuel in a rollover. On the 2002, 34 complaints report a fire.

Recall 04V268000 covers 2001-2005 cars with the 2.4L non-turbo engine and an automatic. The power steering pressure hose can rub on the transaxle differential cover. Its 438,391 count may include other models. Steering ranks third on the car overall, with 160 complaints.

The rest are narrower. Recall 01V288000 re-flashed instrument cluster software on 2002 cars, where most of the gauges could go dark. Recall 03V076000 replaced the dual-mass flywheel and clutch on 816 manual 2003s. Recall 04V481000 fixed brake tube clearance on 115 turbo 2005s with a 5-speed manual and ABS.

2006-2010: the electrical years

The 2006, the facelift year, has 373 complaints, and 126 of them name the electrical system. That's the most electrical complaints of any PT Cruiser year. Visibility shows up too, with 31, and recall 07V149000 says the rear quarter glass on 2005-2006 cars can pull loose from its mounts.

After that the counts drop: 156 on the 2007, 115 on the 2008, 97 on the 2009 and 22 on the 2010. Electrical still leads the 2008 (36) and 2009 (42).

Is it worth fixing?

Even a 2010 PT Cruiser is sixteen model years old. Compare the quote with what a running one sells for.

1. Enter the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. On a 2001-2002, make sure the fuel recalls were done.
