Selling a dead or junk Dodge 600
The 1985 Dodge 600 has 4 recall campaigns and only 2 owner complaints on file with NHTSA. That gap says a lot about this car: its record is mostly recalls from the 1980s, while owners filed just 18 complaints across all years. Two of those recalls are about the driver's seat frame, and two more about fuel leaking under the hood.

Two phases of the 600
Wikipedia lists production from 1982 to 1988 at Jefferson Avenue Assembly in Detroit, on the front-wheel-drive E-body. Engines: the 2.2 L K four, the 2.2 L Turbo I, the 2.5 L K and a 2.6 L Mitsubishi four. Wikipedia says the 2.6 was later replaced by a 2.5 L version of Chrysler's 2.2.
1984-1986: sedan, coupe and convertible
The coupe and convertible ran from 1984 to 1986, beside the sedan. Five of the six recalls touch these years:
- 84V147 (1984): fuel could leak at the reservoir seam and its hose connections.
- 85V010 (1985): a loose clamp on the fuel hose to the pressure regulator could let fuel leak and start an engine compartment fire.
- 89V011 (1985): fatigue could crack the driver's seat frame where its front outboard mount attaches. 60,000 vehicles in the campaign.
- 88V061 (1985-1986): a service replacement seat cushion could carry a brace that fouls the power seat adjuster. 1,500 vehicles.
- 86V028 (1986): an instrument cluster resistor could overheat and ignite.
The 1986 has 6 complaints, 2 of them about tires, and the model's only crash complaint.
1987-1989: sedan only
Wikipedia says the phase-out started in 1987, when the coupe and convertible were dropped, and that the Dodge Dynasty replaced the 600 in the United States. Recall 88V105 still reaches the 1987: where the fuel supply hose joins the regulator and rail, cold weather could open a leak. Its count of 580,000 vehicles covers many models, not the 600 alone. The 1987 has 6 complaints, with the engine and seat belts named twice each.
Complaints and recalls by model year
These are NHTSA owner complaints tallied through October 10, 2026. Oddly, one is logged against a 1990 car, after the last EPA year for this model. Owners of the later cars have had less time to file than owners of the earliest ones.
| Year | Complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | What owners named |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1984 | 3 | 0 | 1 | Structure, speed control, fuel system |
| 1985 | 2 | 0 | 4 | Power train, engine |
| 1986 | 6 | 1 | 3 | Tires 2, fuel system, fuel lines |
| 1987 | 6 | 0 | 1 | Engine 2, seat belts 2, fuel system |
| 1988-1989 | 0 | 0 | 0 | none on file |
| 1990 | 1 | 0 | 0 | Hydraulic brakes |
Keep it or sell it?
Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see what is listed for your car. A dark or flickering dash on a 1986 is worth a careful look given the cluster recall; our electrical problems guide covers what that can mean. If the 600 is simply worn out after decades on the road, old or high mileage helps you decide.
