Selling a broken-down Infiniti M45
The 2003 M45 alone accounts for 129 of the 298 complaints owners have filed with NHTSA on this model. Fifty-five of those name the gasoline fuel system. Nissan has one fuel-system recall on those early years, 12V088: on 2003-2004 M45s built March 7, 2002 through June 3, 2004, a circuit board failure can make the fuel gauge read higher than the fuel in the tank.

The M45 in three stretches
We don't have a generation history for this model, so these three groups are built from the model years in NHTSA's file and the names in EPA's listings. The file has no 2005 row.
| Model years | Complaints | What owners filed under most | Recalls that apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2003-2004 | 172 | Gasoline fuel system, engine | Fuel gauge, engine sensors, brake lamp switch |
| 2006-2010 | 108 | Steering, seats, air bags | Accelerator pedal, tire pressure sensor nut, passenger air bags |
| 2011-2013 | 18 | Engine, power train, fuel/propulsion | Fuel pressure sensors, driveshaft (M56) |
2003-2004: the fuel system years
These two years hold 172 complaints, well over half the file. On the 2003, the fuel system leads with 55, then engine (19) and engine and engine cooling (15). On the 2004, it's fuel system again (22), plus 7 under "fuel system, other."
Two recalls apply besides the gauge. 03V455 replaced crank and cam position sensors on 2003 cars whose circuit boards could have bad solder joints; the 630,000 figure covers that entire campaign. 04V497 replaced a brake lamp switch that could malfunction on 2004 cars, a campaign of only 96 vehicles.
2006-2010: steering, seats and an accelerator pedal
The 2006 has 72 complaints. Steering leads with 14, then seats and air bags with 12 each, and the year reports 2 crashes and 2 injuries. The 2008, 2009 and 2010 have 6, 2 and 1 complaints.
Recall 13V430 covers 2006-2010 M35 and M45 cars built April 4, 2004 through October 5, 2010. Over time the accelerator pedal sensor signal can deteriorate. The fix is a new pedal assembly plus an engine computer reprogram, at no cost. The campaign is 98,307 vehicles, M35s included.
The 2009 has just 2 complaints, both under vehicle speed control, and both report a crash.
Other campaigns on these years:
- 09V393 (2008-2010): a sturdier tire pressure sensor nut, on cars sold or registered in states the notice lists. 143,223 is the campaign-wide total, not an M45 count.
- 15V226 (2006), 16V349, 17V028 and 20V008 (2006-2010): front passenger air bag inflators. Each covers other Nissan and Infiniti models too.
2011-2013: the M56 years
EPA lists M56 versions alongside the M45 here, and the recalls on these years name the M56. There are 18 complaints in all.
- 14V683 (2012-2013): dealers re-torque fuel pressure sensors on V8 cars. 133,592 vehicles, including the Juke, QX56, Q70 and QX80.
- 20V755 (2011-2013): driveshaft replacement on two-wheel-drive M56s. 2,708 vehicles, M35 Hybrids and Q70s included.
- 24V470 (2011-2013): the shaft can fatigue to the point of breaking, so dealers fit a new one. 7,222 vehicles, Q50s and Q70s included.
Complaints and recalls by model year
These M45 numbers are NHTSA complaint totals as of October 10, 2026. Later M45s have been out a shorter time, yet even a 2013 has passed ten years. Campaigns often span several model years, so recall counts overlap.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2003 | 129 | 0 | 2 | Gasoline fuel system (55) |
| 2004 | 43 | 0 | 2 | Gasoline fuel system (22) |
| 2006 | 72 | 2 | 5 | Steering (14) |
| 2007 | 27 | 0 | 4 | Air bags (8) |
| 2008 | 6 | 0 | 5 | Air bags (3) |
| 2009 | 2 | 2 | 5 | Vehicle speed control (2) |
| 2010 | 1 | 0 | 5 | Steering (1) |
| 2011 | 13 | 0 | 2 | Power train, engine (3 each) |
| 2012 | 3 | 0 | 3 | Engine, steering, electrical (1 each) |
| 2013 | 2 | 0 | 3 | Fuel/propulsion (2) |
Fix it or sell it?
- Gauge reads wrong on a 2003-2004? Run the VIN for 12V088 before chasing a fuel problem, and see electrical problems if the recall is done.
- Hesitation or odd throttle on a 2006-2010? Ask a dealer whether 13V430 was done.
- Engine or transmission gone? On a car this age, set the written quote against listings for running M45s like yours. When the gap is small, selling it whole makes more sense. Car doesn't run covers the options.
Selling an M45 or M56 whole
- Note the VIN, mileage, whether the badge says M45x or M56x, and what's wrong.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where it's sitting and whether it rolls in Neutral. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Keep it complete. Leave the wheels and catalytic converters on, and mention anything missing.
- Bring the title and ID to pickup; after you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Which M45 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2003, with 129 as of October 10, 2026, and 55 of them are filed under the gasoline fuel system. The 2006 is next with 72, then the 2004 with 43. The 2008-2010 cars have 9 between them and the 2011-2013 cars 18.
- What is the M45 fuel gauge recall?
- Recall 12V088 covers 2003-2004 M45s built March 7, 2002 through June 3, 2004. A circuit board failure can make the fuel gauge show more fuel than is in the tank. The remedy is a no-cost circuit board modification at a dealer; NHTSA's VIN search shows whether yours had it.
- My M56 has a driveshaft recall. Does that affect selling it?
- It doesn't stop a sale. Recalls 20V755 and 24V470 cover two-wheel-drive 2011-2013 M56s, and the later notice warns the shaft can fatigue and snap. Replacement is free at a dealer. Just tell the buyer it's open.
- Will you buy an M45 that won't move?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.
