Selling a dead or damaged Infiniti Q70
Every Q70 model year from 2014 to 2019 sits under one NHTSA recall: campaign 24V470, for a driveshaft that can fatigue and break on two-wheel-drive cars. If your rear-drive Q70 never had that driveshaft replaced, run the VIN before you decide anything else.

One car, two names
Wikipedia says that in 2013 Infiniti renamed its whole line, and the M sedans became the Q70. It is an executive car on the Nissan FM platform, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The engines listed are a 2.5-liter VQ25HR V6, a 3.5-liter VQ35HR V6 in the hybrid, and a 2.0-liter four for China. EPA data carries three versions: Q70, Q70 AWD and Q70 Hybrid. Nissan dropped the Q70 after the 2019 model year, citing poor sales as buyers moved to crossovers and SUVs.
Where the Q70's problems cluster
2014: one complaint, five recalls
The first year has only 1 complaint on file but 5 recall campaigns, most of them on the hybrid:
- 14V581: dealers reprogram the motor inverter software. Wikipedia says the electric motor could stop working while the car was driving on electric power alone.
- 14V582: dealers inspect the transmission assembly and replace it if they find cracks.
- 14V583: dealers reprogram the engine computer for an accelerator pedal issue. It also covers 2015.
- 20V755: a new driveshaft for 2014 two-wheel-drive cars with the hybrid or the VK56 engine.
Those campaigns also cover the Q50 Hybrid, the M35 Hybrid or the M56. Their vehicle counts (5,412, 817, 6,562 and 2,708) are for the whole campaign, not the Q70 alone.
2015: half of all complaints
The 2015 holds 14 of the 28 complaints. Seven name the power train and 2 name vehicle speed control. The only crash and the only injury in the Q70 file are on this year.
2016-2019: a few complaints a year
All 4 complaints on the 2018 name the air bags. Two on the 2019 name the engine. The 2019 adds recall 19V654, a software update for the back-up camera. Nissan filed it for many of its own models too, so the 1,228,830 figure is a campaign-wide total, not a Q70 number. The 24V470 driveshaft recall (7,222 vehicles, including other Infiniti models) runs across every year.
Complaints and recalls, year by year
Source: NHTSA's owner-complaint file, our count as of October 10, 2026. A single Q70 campaign often spans two or more model years, so the recall figures total 12 rather than 6.
| Year | Complaints filed | Components named most | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 | 1 | Air bags 1 | 5 |
| 2015 | 14 | Power train 7; vehicle speed control 2; visibility 1 | 2 |
| 2016 | 3 | Service brakes 1; air bags 1; visibility/wiper 1 | 1 |
| 2017 | 2 | Steering 1; visibility/wiper 1 | 1 |
| 2018 | 4 | Air bags 4 | 1 |
| 2019 | 4 | Engine 2; steering 1; power train 1 | 2 |
Repair it or let it go?
Recall work costs you nothing, so check that first at NHTSA's recall lookup. A broken driveshaft on a covered car is a dealer job, not a reason to scrap. For other faults, get the quote in writing and compare it to what a working Q70 from your year sells for. If fixing the Q70 would eat up most of that figure, selling it unrepaired means you skip the risk. The open recall guide covers selling with recall work still undone, and bad transmission covers drivetrain trouble.
Selling the Q70 whole
- Note the VIN, the mileage, and whether it is the hybrid.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe the spot it's in and whether the wheels turn. A Q70 with a snapped driveshaft may not roll, and the truck needs to know.
- Leave the battery pack, wheels and catalytic converters in place. You sell the whole car as it sits.
- Have your Q70's title and a photo ID ready when the driver comes. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
Questions people ask
- Which Q70 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2015 Q70 holds 14 of the 28 complaints logged as of October 10, 2026. Seven of the 14 name the power train. The 2018 and 2019 are younger cars, with fewer years in which owners could report anything.
- Is my Q70 in the driveshaft recall?
- If it is two-wheel drive, likely. Recall 24V470 covers 2014-2019 Q70 and 2015-2019 Q70L two-wheel-drive cars, because the driveshaft can fatigue and break. Dealers replace it for free, and owner letters went out August 13, 2024. A VIN lookup on NHTSA's recall page settles it for your car.
- Will you take a Q70 Hybrid that won't go?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, hybrids included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us it won't move and where it is parked.
- Do the hybrid battery or converters need to come out first?
- No. Leave them in and sell the whole car as it sits. Anything already removed, mention up front.
