Nissan's luxury brand
Infiniti is Nissan's luxury car brand. Wikipedia gives its founding date as November 8, 1989, and its headquarters as Nishi-ku, Yokohama. The EPA's fuel economy list picks it up a few months later, with the 1990 M30 and Q45.
For most of its life the lineup mixed sedans, coupes and SUVs. That ended in 2024. In Wikipedia's words, "In August 2024, the Q50 sedan was discontinued due to poor sales, causing Infiniti to become a brand just selling SUVs." So the G, M, I and J sedans on the road today are all older cars, and the Q50 was the last of them.
The names changed partway through. Every G, M, EX and FX name in the EPA list stops at the 2013 model year or earlier. From 2014 on, every new Infiniti name in the list starts with Q: Q50, Q60, Q70, QX50, QX70 and later QX30, QX55 and QX65.
Which Infinitis draw the most NHTSA complaints
Our October 10, 2026 count found 7,160 owner complaints in NHTSA's files for Infiniti's 24 nameplates. These eight hold 5,450 of them:
| Model | Complaints | Years in the EPA list |
|---|---|---|
| G35 | 1,352 | 2003-2008 |
| QX60 | 903 | 2013-2027 |
| QX80 | 674 | 2004-2027 |
| G37 | 565 | 2008-2013 |
| M35 | 543 | 2006-2013 |
| Q50 | 512 | 2014-2024 |
| FX35 | 452 | 2003-2013 |
| I30 | 449 | 1996-2004 |
A complaint is an owner's report to NHTSA. It is not a failure count and not a reliability score. Infinitis that sold well or stayed in the lineup for years collect more reports. New ones lag since owners haven't had long to file: the QX55 has 12, and the 2027 QX65 has none yet.
Even so, the G35 stands out. Six model years of it drew more reports than any other Infiniti, more than SUVs sold for over a decade. The G37 that followed it in the EPA list drew 565 across 2008-2013. The two together hold 1,917, over a quarter of the brand's 7,160.
The QX60 and QX80 rank second and third. Both still appear in the EPA list for 2027, so their totals will keep rising.
Selling a dead Infiniti as a whole car
Leave the battery, wheels and stereo where they are. We take the Infiniti complete, and a tow truck hauls it away.
- Know the model name, model year and roughly how many miles it has.
- For an Infiniti, mention whether the engine turns over, whether it can be pushed, and what parts are broken or missing.
- Mention the title. Lost it? Read selling a junk car with no title first.
- Describe where it's parked, whether that's your garage, an apartment lot or a mechanic's back row.
Pickup is free anywhere in the US. If age and miles are the real problem rather than one broken part, our guide on selling an old or high-mileage car covers that. Once it's gone, handle the plates and the paperwork.

Questions people ask
- Will you buy an Infiniti that doesn't run?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, Infinitis included. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
- Is Infiniti the same company as Nissan?
- Infiniti is Nissan's luxury brand. Wikipedia lists Nissan as its parent and gives its founding date as November 8, 1989, with headquarters in Nishi-ku, Yokohama.
- Does a high complaint count mean my Infiniti model is bad?
- Not by itself. Every Infiniti count is an owner's own report to NHTSA, with no score or grade attached. A model that sold well or stayed on sale for years piles up more, while a 2025 or 2027 Infiniti has barely been out long enough for owners to write in.
- Does Infiniti still sell sedans?
- Not new ones. Wikipedia says the Q50 sedan was discontinued in August 2024 due to poor sales, which left Infiniti selling only SUVs. We still take any older Infiniti sedan, running or not.
