Selling a dead or damaged Infiniti Q60
Most of the Q60's NHTSA file comes from two model years. The 2017 and 2018, the first two years of the redesigned car, hold 59 of its 83 owner complaints. Air bags top the Q60's component list (21), yet none of the Q60's 5 recalls is an air bag recall.

First generation (V36): 2014-2015
The first Q60 was a rename. Wikipedia says the nameplate began as a rebadging of the Infiniti G Line, based on the fourth-generation (V36) G Coupe, after Infiniti moved every passenger car to a "Q" plus two-digit name starting in 2014. It came as a coupe and a convertible.
NHTSA holds 15 complaints on these years: 13 on the 2014 and 2 on the 2015. Six of the 2014's complaints name the air bags. No recall campaign lists the 2014 or 2015 Q60.
Second generation (V37): 2017-2022
The new version arrived in early 2016 as a 2017 model. Power came from a turbocharged 2.0 four or the VR30DDTT, a twin-turbo 3.0 V6, per Wikipedia, with a 7-speed automatic and rear- or all-wheel drive. It was built in Tochigi, Japan, and the convertible did not return.
This generation holds 68 complaints. On the 2017, 11 of 34 complaints cite the engine. The 2018 adds steering (5) to air bags (8) and engine (4). Its recalls:
- 17V476 (2017). Software in the fuel pump control module on cars with the 2.0-liter engine. Dealers reprogram it. The 14,192-vehicle count also covers 2016-2018 Q50s.
- 19V654 (2018-2019). Back-up camera settings software. The 1,228,830 count spans a long list of Nissan models, not just the Q60.
- 20V145 (2020). Rear seat belts with a dual-mode locking mechanism may not lock as designed. This campaign is Q60 only, 275 vehicles.
- 21V234 (2021). After it detects rapid acceleration, the engine computer may wrongly reduce power and fuel. The 12,943 count includes the Q50.
- 21V599 (2021). A software error can shut off the screen, so the rear-view image does not show. The 3,569 count includes the Q50 and QX80.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Q60 owner complaints from NHTSA's October 10, 2026 file.
| Year | Complaints | Injured | Recalls | Top components |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 | 13 | 1 | 0 | Air bags 6, engine 2, electrical 2 |
| 2015 | 2 | 0 | 0 | Electrical 1 |
| 2016 | none on file | - | 0 | - |
| 2017 | 34 | 2 | 1 | Engine 11, air bags 6 |
| 2018 | 25 | 2 | 1 | Air bags 8, steering 5, engine 4 |
| 2019 | 4 | 0 | 1 | Electrical 2 |
| 2020 | 2 | 0 | 1 | Engine cooling 1, air bags 1 |
| 2021 | 3 | 0 | 2 | Engine 2, structure 1 |
The 2019-2021 Q60s are younger, which partly explains their short rows.
When the twin-turbo or the engine goes
Engine complaints total 19, second only to air bags. On a V6 twin-turbo car, ask for a written quote that says whether one turbo, both, or the engine itself is the problem. Then compare it with what a running Q60 of the same year sells for. Our failed turbo guide and repairs that cost more than the car walk through that comparison. Run the VIN through NHTSA's lookup first, since a 2021 power-loss complaint may match 21V234.

Questions people ask
- Which Q60 years have the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2017 (34) and the 2018 (25), the V37's launch pair. Between them: 59 of 83 Q60 complaints in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 file. A 2020 or 2021 Q60 has simply been around for fewer years of filing.
- Is there a recall for the Q60 losing engine power?
- On the 2021, yes. Recall 21V234 says the engine computer may wrongly cut engine power and fuel after it detects rapid acceleration. A dealer updates the Q60's software. A dealer may or may not have done that fix, so run the Q60's VIN through nhtsa.gov/recalls to find out.
- Can I sell a Q60 with a blown engine or a bad turbo?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.
