Selling a dead or worn-out Infiniti G35
The first-year G35 is where the record piles up. NHTSA's file holds 1,352 owner complaints on the G35 as of October 10, 2026, and 533 of them are on the 2003. That same year has 5 of the model's 8 recall campaigns.

Two generations wore the G35 name
EPA lists the G35 from the 2003 to the 2008 model year, as a sedan, a coupe and the all-wheel-drive G35x. Wikipedia calls it a badge-engineered export version of the Nissan Skyline. It took over from the front-drive G20 as a rear-drive sports sedan.
- V35, 2003-2006 sedans and the coupes through 2007. Sedans were built from January 2002 to August 2006 in Kaminokawa, Tochigi, Japan. Engine: the 3.5-liter VQ35DE V6, rated 260 hp in 2003-2004 sedans. Automatics used a 5-speed.
- V36, the 2007-2008 sedan. Production started in September 2006. Engine: the 3.5-liter VQ35HR V6, rated 306 hp.
For 2009 the G37 sedan replaced it.
What owners reported, generation by generation
2003-2006: electrical complaints and a sensor recall
On the 2003, 188 of the 533 complaints are filed under the electrical system. Another 58 are under engine and engine cooling, and 51 under engine.
Recall 03V455 covers the 2003 for crank and cam position sensors. Their circuit boards could have a bad solder joint, deformed by heat stress. Dealers replaced the crank and cam position sensors, and in some cases the variable timing control sensors. The campaign counted 630,000 vehicles, but it named certain passenger vehicles, so that is not a count of G35s.
The 2003 has four more campaigns:
- a fuel hose at the fuel pump outlet that may not have been attached right at the factory (02V245)
- missing tamperproof caps on the headlamps (02V331)
- a brake lamp switch that may malfunction (03V200)
- a fuel filler hose that may crack and leak while you refuel (05V555, which also covers the 2004 and some sport utility vehicles)
After the first year the counts fall off: 244 on the 2004, where exterior lighting leads at 32; 215 on the 2005, where air bags lead at 38; and 145 on the 2006, led by engine and engine cooling at 20. Recall 10V175 covers 2005-2007 G35 sedans and coupes for a wire harness, filed under seats.
2007-2008: the new sedan, and air bag complaints
Air bags top both years: 27 of 115 complaints on the 2007, and 33 of 95 on the 2008. On 2007-2008 G35 sedans, recall 08V521 sent dealers to check the signal between the OCS and ACU systems. Its 204,361 vehicles also include Altimas, 350Zs, Rogues, the 2008 G37 coupe and the EX35. Recall 06V394 replaced headlamp assemblies on some 2006-2007 cars that missed the federal lamp standard.
Complaints and recalls by model year
We counted these G35 figures on October 10, 2026, using NHTSA's public complaint data. NHTSA's data also has 3 complaints logged as a 2002 and 2 as a 2009, years EPA doesn't list for the G35, and we show them as filed. A single recall campaign can span several years.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes reported | Recall campaigns | Component named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2002 | 3 | 0 | 0 | Air bags, electrical, steering (1 each) |
| 2003 | 533 | 15 | 5 | Electrical system (188) |
| 2004 | 244 | 17 | 1 | Exterior lighting (32) |
| 2005 | 215 | 9 | 1 | Air bags (38) |
| 2006 | 145 | 7 | 2 | Engine and engine cooling (20) |
| 2007 | 115 | 8 | 3 | Air bags (27) |
| 2008 | 95 | 10 | 1 | Air bags (33) |
| 2009 | 2 | 1 | 0 | Speed control, electrical (1 each) |
Across every year, electrical system is the component named most (260), then engine (138) and air bags (136).
Repair it, or sell it?
If fixing it would cost close to what a running G35 with similar miles is selling for, sell it as it sits. Before you decide:
- Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup and ask an Infiniti dealer about anything still open.
- Electrical faults on a 2003 are the clearest pattern in the data. Our electrical problems guide covers how to weigh one.
- Warning light on? Have the code read before you assume the worst. See check engine light.
- Big miles on a car this old? Old or high-mileage cars explains what still counts.
Selling a G35 whole
- Write down the VIN, the mileage, sedan or coupe, and whether it's a G35x.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us where the G35 is parked and if it can roll. A lowered coupe in a tight garage is worth mentioning, so the truck that comes is the right one.
- Keep the G35 whole. Don't pull the wheels, seats or catalytic converter. If something is already gone, say so; missing parts explains why it matters.
- On pickup day, have your photo ID and the G35's title ready. Plate rules differ by state; see after you sell.

Questions people ask
- Which G35 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- NHTSA listed 1,352 G35 complaints on October 10, 2026, and 533 of them name a 2003 car. The 2004 follows with 244, then the 2005 with 215. By that date the 2006-2008 G35s had been driven for fewer years, which partly explains their lower totals.
- Was the 2003 crank and cam sensor recall only for the G35?
- No. Recall 03V455 counted 630,000 vehicles and named certain passenger vehicles, so that number covers more than the G35. Run your G35's VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup to check if it's included and if the fix was done.
- Will you buy a G35 that won't start or has electrical trouble?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention what your G35 does at the key and if it rolls.
- Do you take G35 coupes and the all-wheel-drive G35x too?
- Yes, sedan, coupe or G35x. Tell us which G35 you have when you ask for an offer, and sell the whole car as it sits.
