Selling a broken or wrecked Infiniti QX30
Half of the QX30's six recall campaigns are for air bags, and air bags are also what owners complain about most: 14 of the 60 complaints on file with NHTSA. The electrical system is close behind with 13.

An Infiniti built on Mercedes parts
Wikipedia says the QX30 was built from 2016 to 2019 at Nissan's plant in Sunderland, in the United Kingdom, on the Modular Front Architecture platform, and lists the Infiniti Q30, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and GLA as related models. Every QX30 used a Mercedes-Benz M270 turbo four with a 7-speed automatic, sending power to the front or to all four wheels. EPA data lists the QX30 and QX30 AWD for 2017 to 2019.
Recalls on the 2017
The first model year has 4 of the 6 campaigns:
- 16V939. On some cars built August 11 to September 27, 2016, the passenger air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite. Dealers replace the passenger air bag. 509 vehicles.
- 17V143. The driver-side curtain air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite in a crash. Dealers replace the curtain air bag. 79 vehicles.
- 17V691 (also 2018). Without enough grounding on the steering parts, a static discharge can set off the driver's air bag unexpectedly. Dealers add grounding. 17,507 vehicles.
- 21V419. The bore hole for the universal joint bearing in the steering shaft may allow too much movement, which over time could let parts separate. Dealers replace the lower steering shaft. 1,959 vehicles.
Recalls on the 2018 and 2019
On some 2018s, 18V355 covers a lower seat belt anchor bolt that may have been installed wrong; only 6 vehicles. 19V654, on 2018-2019 cars, updates back-up camera software. Its 1,228,830 count covers a long list of Nissan models, so it says little about the QX30 by itself.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Complaints QX30 owners filed, per NHTSA's October 10, 2026 data. As the youngest year, the 2019 has had the shortest stretch to draw any.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Injured | Recalls | Leading components |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 33 | 3 | 3 | 4 | Air bags 10, electrical 4, power train 4 |
| 2018 | 24 | 0 | 0 | 3 | Electrical 8, air bags 3 |
| 2019 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | Air bags, collision avoidance, electrical |
The 2018's complaints lean electrical rather than air bag, 8 against 3, a different pattern from the 2017.
Repair, or sell it as it sits?
Recall work is done at a dealer by VIN, so check NHTSA's lookup before paying for any air bag or steering diagnosis. Electrical faults are harder: they can take several visits to trace. Our electrical problems guide covers when to stop. Line up any written estimate against a running QX30's price for the same year.

Questions people ask
- What are the QX30 air bag recalls?
- Three: 16V939 (passenger air bag inflator on some 2017s built August 11 to September 27, 2016), 17V143 (driver-side curtain air bag on some 2017s) and 17V691 (2017-2018 cars where the driver's air bag may deploy on its own after a static discharge). Dealers replace or fix the parts.
- Which QX30 year has the most complaints?
- The 2017: 33 of 60 in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 count. The 2019 shows 3, in part because it is younger.
- Will you buy a QX30 with an electrical fault or a dead battery?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and you sell the whole car as it sits. Free pickup anywhere in the US.
