Selling a broken or junk Infiniti QX55
The engine shows up in 5 of the QX55's 12 NHTSA complaints. Four of those five are on the 2022, the first model year. That same 2022 is the only QX55 year in Nissan's recall for its variable compression turbo engines.

The engine story
The QX55 shares its Wikipedia entry with the QX50. The second-generation QX50 uses the 2.0-liter KR20DDET turbo four with an Xtronic CVT. Recall 25V437 places the 2022 QX55 in a group of Nissan and Infiniti models built with VC-Turbo engines, either 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter.
On December 13, 2023, NHTSA opened an investigation into owner complaints about the KR15DDT and KR20DDET engines. Per Wikipedia, those complaints describe the engine quitting, loss of power, knocking, and metal chunks or shavings in the oil pan. The cause appears to be damage to the main bearings and L-links.
Recall 25V437 was reported June 27, 2025. Dealers reprogram the engine control module at no charge, and owner letters were mailed April 8, 2026. The 443,899-vehicle count is the whole campaign. It also covers 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima and 2019-2022 QX50 models, so most of those vehicles are not QX55s.
The other recall
Recall 23V187 lists the 2023 QX55. The wrong latch may have gone into the front right passenger door lock. Dealers replace the lock assembly for free. Only 48 vehicles are in that campaign, and it includes some 2022 QX50s.
By model year
NHTSA owner reports, tallied October 10, 2026. Owners of a 2024 or 2025 QX55 haven't had long to send in reports.
| Year | Complaints | Most-named components | Recalls listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 8 | Engine 4; seats 1; engine and engine cooling 1 | 1 |
| 2023 | 4 | Seats 1; unknown or other 1; power train 1 | 1 |
| 2024 | none on file | none | 0 |
| 2025 | none on file | none | 0 |
None of the 12 complaints report a crash, fire or injury. One says the vehicle was towed.
Wikipedia says Infiniti announced in January 2025 that the QX55 would end by the close of 2025, so no newer years are coming.
Engine quote versus a sale
Check the recall first at nhtsa.gov/recalls, then ask an Infiniti dealer what they will do for a 2022 whose engine has already given out. If the bill for a replacement engine lands on you, ask for that number on paper and set it beside the value of a running QX55 of the same year. Our blown engine guide lays out how to think about that.
Selling it whole
- Have the VIN, mileage and any dealer paperwork on the engine ready.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Mention if it cranks, if it can roll, and where it sits now. An AWD crossover that won't roll needs the right truck.
- Sell the whole car as it sits. Don't pull wheels or the converter first.
- Pickup is free anywhere in the US. Bring the title and ID.
Its closest relative is the QX50, which shares its Wikipedia entry and recall 25V437.
Questions people ask
- Is my 2022 QX55 in the engine recall?
- It may be. Campaign 25V437 includes the 2022 QX55. Dealers reflash the engine control software at no charge, and letters to owners were mailed April 8, 2026. Your VIN on NHTSA's recall page answers it for your car.
- Why are there no complaints on the 2024 and 2025?
- In our October 10, 2026 count, only the 2022 (8) and 2023 (4) have any. The latest two QX55 years are still young, so a blank record for them may change.
- Can you buy a QX55 with a seized engine?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Check the recall first, then decide.
