Selling an Infiniti QX70 that's done
The last QX70 model year, 2017, has 8 complaints on file with NHTSA. That is nearly as many as the 2015's 9, though the 2017 has had less time on the road. Three of the 2017's name the electrical system, more than any other component on that year.

The FX under a new badge
The QX70 is not a new design. Wikipedia lists it as the second-generation FX (S51), built from March 2008 and renamed QX70 in 2013, with model years ending in 2017. It is a rear-drive-based crossover on the Nissan FM platform. EPA data lists two versions, QX70 AWD and QX70 RWD.
Wikipedia lists three engines for that generation: a 3.5-liter VQ35HR V6, a 3.7-liter VQ37VHR V6 and a 5.0-liter VK50VE V8. The V6 cars use a 7-speed RE7R01A automatic. Production was at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan, with some 2013-2014 builds in St. Petersburg, Russia. The QX65 is listed as the successor.
What owners reported, by year
2014 and 2015. The 2014's 5 complaints are scattered: exterior lighting, air bags, and the wipers each come up once. The 2015's 9 are spread out: 2 name the service brakes and 1 the seat belts. The only reported fire in the QX70 file is on a 2015. Both years are in recall 14V683, where dealers re-torque the fuel pressure sensors.
2016. A single complaint. It involves air bags and reports the file's one crash and one injury.
2017. Eight complaints: electrical system 3, power train 2, structure 1. No recall is listed for this year.
The numbers
Owner reports to NHTSA, tallied by us on October 10, 2026.
| Model year | Owner complaints | Crashes / fires | Top components | Recalls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 | 5 | 0 / 0 | Exterior lighting 1; air bags 1; visibility/wiper 1 | 1 |
| 2015 | 9 | 0 / 1 | Service brakes 2; seat belts 1; unknown or other 1 | 1 |
| 2016 | 1 | 1 / 0 | Air bags 1 | 0 |
| 2017 | 8 | 0 / 0 | Electrical system 3; power train 2; structure 1 | 0 |
The one recall covers both 2014 and 2015, so the column shows it twice.
Is it worth fixing?
Start by putting your QX70's VIN into NHTSA's recall search. If the fuel-sensor work was never done on a 2014 or 2015, a dealer does it for free. For electrical faults, a diagnosis tells you whether it is one module or a pile of them. Our electrical problems guide walks through that. Then hold the shop's written figure up against the going price for a running QX70 of that year. If the repair eats most of it, an unrepaired sale is usually the better call.
How the sale works
- Gather the VIN and mileage, and note whether it is AWD or RWD.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us where your QX70 is parked and if it rolls and steers. We pick the truck from that.
- Leave everything on it, from the wheels to the exhaust. Sell the whole car as it sits.
- Hand our driver the QX70's title and every key you have. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.

Questions people ask
- Which QX70 year has the most complaints?
- The 2015 leads with 9 in our October 10, 2026 count. Next is the 2017 at 8, then the 2014 at 5 and the 2016 at 1. A later year with fewer reports may simply have spent fewer years on the road.
- What was the QX70 recall?
- Campaign 14V683, listed for 2014 and 2015 QX70s. Dealers re-torque the fuel pressure sensors for free. Its 133,592 vehicles are the total for a campaign that spans the Juke, M56, QX56, Q70 V8 and QX80 as well, so far fewer of them are QX70s.
- Is a QX70 the same vehicle as an FX?
- Per Wikipedia, the second-generation FX was renamed QX70 in 2013, and model years ran through 2017. It is the same SUV as the last FX models, under a new name.
- Will you take a QX70 that doesn't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, SUVs included, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
