Selling a Jeep Wagoneer that's done
Two very different SUVs carry the Wagoneer name in NHTSA's files. Of 436 owner complaints, 389 are about the 2022-2025 Wagoneer, built on the Ram 1500 (DT) chassis. The other 47 are spread across model years 1988 to 2001, and no year in that stretch has more than 13.

Brakes on the old ones, electrical on the new
The full-size and compact Wagoneers
Wikipedia says the first Wagoneer arrived in November 1962 for the 1963 model year, replacing the Willys Jeep Station Wagon. It was a full-size body-on-frame SUV that shared its architecture with the Gladiator pickup, built from 1962 to 1991. A second-generation Wagoneer, from 1983 to 1990, was an upscale version of the compact XJ Cherokee, sold as the Wagoneer and the Wagoneer Limited.
NHTSA's complaints on these years center on brakes. Of 11 complaints on the 1989, 4 name the hydraulic service brakes. On the 1990 it's 7 of 13. The recalls match:
- 91V063 replaced the anti-lock brake system's high-pressure hose on 1990 models, since a badly crimped fitting could let it detach.
- 91V003 replaced an ABS hose and rebuilt the master cylinder on 1989-1990 models, after fluid contamination and corrosion of a snap ring.
- 96V260 tested and repaired the ABS hydraulic control unit on 1989-1991 models, and extended the ABS warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles. That coverage is long gone.
- 98V005 swapped in corrosion-coated brake rotors on 1990-1991 Wagoneers first sold, or now registered, in certain states, including Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan and New York. Its 293,369 vehicles span other models too.
On 1989-1990 Wagoneers, recall 90V177 swapped a throttle position sensor whose bad signal could make the engine race at idle the moment it started. From 1992 through 2001, no model year has more than three complaints, and none has a recall.
The 2022-2025 Wagoneer
The fourth-generation Wagoneer was revealed in March 2021 for the 2022 model year as Jeep's flagship, Wikipedia says. It was merged into the Grand Wagoneer for 2026.
The 2022 has 208 complaints: 78 name the electrical system, 27 the service brakes and 26 the engine. The 2023 follows with 111, led by electrical (35) and engine (32). The 2024 has 61 and the 2025 has 9, and the later SUVs have spent fewer months with owners.
Most of its recalls are shared with the Grand Wagoneer, so their vehicle counts are not Wagoneers alone:
- Air bags: 21V873 updated the air bag control module's software on 2022s, because a fault could switch the air bags off (99,255 vehicles, with the Grand Cherokee L). 23V545 reseats B-pillar trim that could get in the way of the side curtain air bag (2022-2023).
- Trim that can come loose: 25V593 (door trim, 2022-2025), 25V642 (quarter window trim, 2022-2024) and 26V584 (roof rack crossbar pivot bolts, 2022-2025).
- Rear camera software: 23V577, 24V436 and 24V944. The 24V436 campaign counts 1,033,433 vehicles across Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram models.
- Other: 23V716 (third-row seat belt buckles), 24V199 (steering column control module), 26V559 (tire pressure monitor software, 2024-2025).
Wagoneer complaints and recalls by model year
Wagoneer totals cover owner complaints NHTSA logged through October 10, 2026. Three of the 19 campaigns aren't described above: 21V919 (seats, 2022), 21V00A (rear camera display, 2022) and one more not named in the recall list.

Fix it, restore it or sell it
- On a 2022-2025, run the VIN at NHTSA's lookup. Several trim and software recalls are recent, and the 26V584 roof rack repair started with interim letters.
- Electrical faults on the newer SUV are the top complaint. Electrical problems explains how to judge them.
- On an older Wagoneer, brakes and years of sitting are the usual story. Bad or seized brakes and old project car help you decide whether a restoration is realistic.
- Compare the quote with what the Wagoneer would bring running. If the gap is small, selling as is wins.
Selling a Wagoneer whole
- Tell us which Wagoneer it is: the year, whether it's a long L version, the mileage and what's wrong.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe where it sits. An old Wagoneer in a barn or field may have flat tires or seized brakes, so mention it. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Leave it complete, chrome and trim included.
- Find the title and your ID before pickup day. No title for an old one? See selling with no title.
Questions people ask
- Which Wagoneer year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2022, with 208 as of October 10, 2026, and 78 of them name the electrical system. The 2023 has 111 and the 2024 has 61. A 2025 has simply been driven for a shorter stretch than a 2022.
- Is the Jeep Wagoneer still made?
- Not as its own line. Wikipedia says the Wagoneer was merged into the Grand Wagoneer for the 2026 model year. EPA data for the Wagoneer runs through 2025.
- Does the old ABS warranty extension still cover my 1989-1991 Wagoneer?
- Recall 96V260 extended the ABS component warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles on 1989-1991 models. Ten years from those model years passed long ago, so expect no coverage now.
- Will you buy an old Wagoneer that has sat for years?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and you sell the whole car as it sits. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
