Selling a dead or wrecked Lucid

Yes, a Lucid that no longer drives can be sold as it is. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, so a dead Air or Gravity goes on the truck in one piece. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.

Lucid is one of the youngest names in the EPA's fuel economy list. Its cars start with model year 2022, and there are only two of them. That makes this a short page.

Who makes Lucid

Lucid Motors was founded in 2007 and is based in Newark, California, according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia files it among battery electric vehicle makers. Its largest shareholder is Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which held 58.42% as of 2024.

Three dates mark how the company grew into a car builder:

  • November 29, 2016: Lucid and Arizona officials announced a US$700 million factory in Casa Grande, Arizona. The plan was to start at 20,000 cars a year and grow to 130,000.
  • February 28, 2022: Lucid announced a long-term plan for a second plant in Saudi Arabia, sized for 150,000 vehicles a year.
  • December 5, 2024: the first production Gravity was completed at Casa Grande. Orders had opened on November 7. Gravities for the Saudi market get their final assembly in Saudi Arabia, from parts shipped out of Arizona.

What owners have reported to NHTSA

NHTSA's records on October 10, 2026 held 98 complaints from Lucid owners, counting both models.

ModelModel years (EPA list)NHTSA complaints
Air2022-202783
Gravity2025-202715

The Air accounts for 83 of the 98, about 85%. Read that with its age in mind. The Air reached owners three model years before the Gravity, so it has had far longer to collect complaints. Every Lucid complaint is a single owner's own report. The total is not a list of failures, and it does not rate how dependable a Lucid is.

What every Lucid has in common

Both models are electric, so a dead Lucid is a different job from a dead gas car. There is no engine to seize or transmission to slip. When one stops, the cause is usually somewhere in the high-voltage system, the electronics or crash damage. Our EV battery guide covers the case where the pack itself has failed.

Both models are also new. The oldest Lucid in the EPA list is a 2022, so a Lucid for sale as a non-runner is more often wrecked or flooded than worn out. If an insurer has written yours off, selling a wrecked car explains what happens to the title.

Getting a dead Lucid picked up

You do not unplug, drain or remove anything. The pack rides along inside the car, which leaves whole on a truck.

  1. Know whether it is an Air or a Gravity, plus its year and miles.
  2. Tell us if the screens light up, if the wheels turn freely, and if it was ever crashed or flooded.
  3. Say whether you have the title. If there is a loan on it, start with still owing on the car.
  4. Tell us where it is parked: your garage, a curb or a body shop lot.

Pickup is free anywhere in the US. When it is gone, deal with the plates and paperwork.

Every Lucid model in the EPA list

The EPA has rated two Lucid nameplates. Years are model years, and both are still on sale, so the newest years are still filling in.

Questions people ask

Will you buy a Lucid that will not power on?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, electric ones included. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
Does a Lucid with 83 complaints mean the Air is unreliable?
No. NHTSA's file held 83 Air complaints from owners on October 10, 2026, the day we pulled it. A Lucid complaint tells you what one owner saw. That count says nothing about how reliable a Lucid really is. The Air has been on sale since model year 2022, so it has had more time to collect them than the Gravity.
Do I need to remove the battery pack before pickup?
No. The car goes whole, battery and all. Tell us if the pack is damaged or the car has been in a crash, so the truck comes ready for it.
