Selling a damaged or non-running Lucid Air

Lucid's August 2026 instruction to 2022-2026 Air owners was blunt: leave the sedan outdoors, clear of any garage or carport. Recall 26V540000 says the exterior lighting circuit may lack enough overcurrent protection and can overheat. Its campaign covers 27,185 vehicles, a count for the whole campaign.

Two sets of recalls

Wikipedia dates Air production from September 2021 at Casa Grande, Arizona, in single-, dual- and tri-motor versions, all driving through a one-speed fixed gear. EPA data runs from 2022 to 2027. The recalls split the cars into two groups.

2022-2023: drive power, wipers and defrost

The launch years carry the most recalls: 15 campaigns list the 2022 and 12 list the 2023. Two of them deal with losing drive power:

  • 23V110000: the switches that feed the drive motors may open on their own (886 vehicles in the campaign).
  • 23V523000: software 2.0.64 and older may not respond properly to an inverter power module failure (778).

A third, 24V497000, says that when a hardware communication fault is detected, the high voltage interlock software could disconnect the high voltage contactors (5,251).

Others cover wiper arm nuts that loosen (23V521000) and a high voltage coolant heater that may fail to defrost the windshield (24V011000 and 24V495000). The 2022 also has a front tow eye bracket that can detach during towing (22V727000).

Separately, among complaints owners filed, electrical system leads for the 2022 (6) and the 2023 (5).

2024-2026: the Pure rear-wheel-drive cars

Air Pure rear-wheel-drive cars have their own recalls. A rear subframe wiring harness may be too short and cut power to the rear drive unit (24V836000, 1,539 vehicles). Half-shaft bolts may not be secured, letting the half-shaft come off the drive unit (25V669000 and 26V193000). On 2024-2025 rear-wheel-drive cars, the Gen 4 inverter can be damaged by internal friction, again with a loss of drive power (26V309000). Power train is the top complaint component on both the 2024 and the 2025, at 4 each.

Two rearview camera software recalls span nearly every year: 25V670000 (22,319 vehicles) and 26V017000 (10,816).

Complaints and recalls by model year

These Air counts come from owners' NHTSA filings through October 10, 2026, and none of them grades the sedan. A 2026 Air is younger than a 2022, so later rows have had fewer months to gather filings. One recall campaign can list several model years, and its vehicle count covers the whole campaign. The 2027 has no complaints on file yet.

Repair or sell?

  1. Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall search. Many Air remedies are free over-the-air updates. The harness, half-shaft bolt and contact switch fixes need the car in Lucid's hands.
  2. If 26V540000 is still open, keep the car outside until it is done.
  3. Lost drive power? Check whether one of the recalls above covers it before you treat the car as dead. If the high-voltage battery itself is the problem, see EV battery failed.

Selling an Air whole

  1. Gather the VIN, mileage and what's wrong, including any warning on the screen.
  2. Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Describe the parking spot and whether the Air can roll. On a 2022, mention if recall 22V727000 is open, since it concerns the front tow eye bracket.
  4. Leave everything on. Sell the whole car as it sits. If a wheel or seat is missing, mention it up front, since that changes the offer.
  5. Handle the paperwork. When the truck arrives, the Air's title goes over along with a look at your license. After you sell covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask

Which Lucid Air model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2023 leads: 29 complaints counted as of October 10, 2026, versus 24 for the 2022. The 2024 shows 10 and the 2026 shows 6, but those cars are younger and their totals keep growing.
Why does the Air recall say to park outside?
Recall 26V540000, reported August 20, 2026, covers 2022-2026 Air sedans. NHTSA's notice says the exterior lighting circuit may not have enough overcurrent protection and can overheat. Until Lucid's fix is installed, the notice says the sedan belongs outdoors, well clear of any building.
My Air Pure rear-wheel drive lost drive power. Is there a recall?
