Selling a junk or non-running MINI Paceman

Owners have filed only four complaints about the MINI Paceman with NHTSA, and the agency's data lists no recall campaigns for it. So if your Paceman has quit, the record won't explain why. What's wrong is whatever your car has.

Built alongside the Countryman

Wikipedia says the Paceman was built from 2012 to 2016 in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr, along with the Countryman, not at BMW's UK plant in Cowley. Like the Countryman, it came with front-wheel drive or ALL4 all-wheel drive. Wikipedia lists a 1.6-liter petrol four in the Cooper, turbocharged in the Cooper S, plus 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels. EPA data lists the Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper S ALL4 and JCW ALL4 for the 2014 to 2016 model years.

BMW ended production in late 2016. Executives felt the Paceman sat too close to the Countryman, and the second-generation Countryman took its place.

The full NHTSA record

Paceman owners filed these reports, as found in the October 10, 2026 NHTSA file. They don't rate reliability. Even the newest Paceman is a 2016, so a short time on the road is not why the count is low.

None of the four reports a crash, fire, injury or tow. With only four reports on file, no trend can be read from them.

Fix it or sell it

With no pattern to lean on, the decision comes down to your quote:

  1. Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup anyway.
  2. Get the problem diagnosed and the repair quoted in writing.
  3. Set that quote against the price of a running Paceman like yours. When the repair would swallow most of that price, sell it broken. What a junk car is worth explains what moves an offer.

If it simply won't start, our non-running car guide covers the first checks.

Selling it whole

  1. Note the VIN, mileage and whether it's an ALL4.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Let us know if the Paceman is parked in a garage, a driveway or on the street, and if it can roll up onto a truck. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
  4. Keep the Paceman in one piece, and tell us about any parts already pulled.
  5. The title and your photo ID go with the car at pickup. After you sell covers plates and insurance.
