Selling a damaged or non-running Porsche 718
One of the 718's six recalls tells owners not to drive at all. On the 2024 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Spyder RS, campaign 24V809 says the center-lock wheel bolt may fracture and the wheel can come off.

The name is borrowed. Wikipedia's Porsche 718 entry describes an earlier mid-engined Porsche with a 1,498 cc four-cylinder boxer engine and a 5-speed manual. This page is about the road cars EPA data lists as the 718 Boxster, Cayman and Spyder, from 2020 to 2025.
Engine complaints and recalls, by model year group
The engine is named in 6 of the 718's 10 NHTSA complaints, and in at least one complaint on every model year from 2021 on.
2019-2021
NHTSA's file has one 2019 complaint, about the service brakes, and one recall: 19V113, where dealers secured a crossmember with extra rivets (14,388 vehicles in the campaign, covering 2017-2019 Boxster and Cayman models). The 2020 has no complaints and no recalls.
The 2021 has 4 complaints, two naming the engine, plus one each for back-over prevention and seat belts. Two recalls list it:
- 21V200: engine connecting rods that may crack and loosen on the Cayman GT4, Cayman GTS 4.0, 718 Spyder and Boxster GTS 4.0. Dealers replace the rods or, as necessary, the engine (193 vehicles).
- 21V157: suspension nuts and bolts replaced (396 vehicles, a campaign that also includes the Taycan and 911).
2022-2025
Each year here has one or two complaints. The 2023 has one that reports a crash, and the 2025 has one that reports a fire. The 2024 carries three recalls:
- 23V813: rear ECU software on 2023-2024 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, Boxster S and Boxster GTS 4.0, tied to the rear spoiler (53 vehicles).
- 24V343: a shift cable safety clip that may not be installed right on 2024 Boxster and Cayman cars (14 vehicles).
- 24V809: the do-not-drive wheel bolt recall (2,251 vehicles, including Panamera and 911).
Keep the age in mind: a 2024 or 2025 718 is barely broken in, so its owners have had little chance to file.
