Two Vues under one name
The Vue changed almost everything for 2008. Knowing which one you have tells you which complaints and recalls apply.
First generation, 2002-2007: Spring Hill, Tennessee
Built at Spring Hill on GM's Theta platform, the first Vue offered a 2.2-liter L61 four, a 2.4-liter mild hybrid, a 3.0-liter L81 V6 and a 3.5-liter L66 V6. Wikipedia lists four transmissions: the GM 4T45-E 4-speed automatic, an Aisin AF33 5-speed automatic, a Honda H5 5-speed automatic and a Getrag F23 5-speed manual.
These six years hold 1,847 complaints. The power train dominates the early ones: 280 of 622 on the 2003 and 83 of 276 on the 2004. Later the subject shifts. On the 2006, air bags lead with 88 of 300. On the 2007, the electrical system leads with 118 of 312, and air bags follow at 90.
Three recalls cover this generation:
- 14V490: on 2002-2004 Vues built from September 11, 2001, to April 6, 2004, it may be possible to remove the key from the ignition. Dealers check whether the key can be pulled out when the ignition is off. GM's notice names only the Vue, and the campaign counts 202,155 vehicles.
- 01V386: rear outer seat belt shoulder guide anchor bolts on certain 2002 SUVs. The 327-vehicle campaign doesn't name the Vue, so the count may include other models.
- 03V519: a corrected tire and rim label for certain 2004 SUVs with the 3.5-liter V6. The 6,134-vehicle campaign may also cover other models.
Second generation, 2008-2010: Ramos Arizpe, Mexico
Opel built the second Vue in Mexico, related to the Chevrolet Captiva Sport. Power came from a 2.4-liter LE5 four, a 3.5-liter LZ4 V6, or the 2.4-liter eAssist hybrid. Transmissions were the 4T45-E 4-speed or the 6T70 6-speed automatic. Wikipedia notes the V6 versions switched to hydraulic power steering, while the four-cylinder cars kept electric assist.
This generation has 548 complaints. The 2008 carries most of them, 417, led by power train (100), electrical (70) and steering (66). On the 2009, steering leads with 35 of 125. Four recalls:
- 08V470: the nut holding the power steering line to the pump may loosen. Dealers inspect and tighten it. 42,408 Vues from 2008-2009.
- 09V233: body-color outside door handles that can stick or bind, so the door may not latch. Dealers swap in chrome handles. 44,451 of the 2008s.
- 08V616: an incorrect front steering knuckle on 2,149 of the 2009s.
- 08V200: 26 of the 2008s with the 6T70 transmission, where the case bore holding the park pawl pivot pin may be faulty. Dealers replace the transmission.
Vue complaints and recalls, year by year
Every Vue count here comes from NHTSA complaint data we pulled on October 10, 2026. Each recall shows under every Vue year it reaches. The 2010 is the youngest, so it has had the fewest years to gather reports, and it was the last Vue.
| Year | Complaints | Crashes | Fires | Recalls | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2002 | 167 | 13 | 5 | 2 | Electrical (41) |
| 2003 | 622 | 29 | 9 | 1 | Power train (280) |
| 2004 | 276 | 23 | 5 | 2 | Power train (83) |
| 2005 | 170 | 15 | 3 | 0 | Electrical (66) |
| 2006 | 300 | 18 | 6 | 0 | Air bags (88) |
| 2007 | 312 | 11 | 6 | 0 | Electrical (118) |
| 2008 | 417 | 17 | 11 | 3 | Power train (100) |
| 2009 | 125 | 8 | 3 | 2 | Steering (35) |
| 2010 | 6 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Electrical (2) |
Across all years, 49 complaints report a fire and 134 report a crash.
Worth fixing?
Price the fix in writing, then check what working Vues like yours are listed for. A repair bill that eats most of that figure points toward selling the Vue unrepaired.
