The EPA's fuel economy list rates Saturns from the 1991 model year through 2010, and nothing after. So the newest Saturn on the road is a 2010, and the oldest go back to the first SL and SC coupes of 1991. Below: what owners have told federal safety regulators about each model, and an index of all eleven.
Ion, Vue and SL: where the complaints pile up
Owners have filed 15,533 complaints with NHTSA about Saturn's models, counted as of October 10, 2026. Three models account for most of them.
| Model | EPA years | NHTSA complaints |
|---|---|---|
| Ion | 2003-2007 | 4,343 |
| Vue | 2002-2010 | 2,395 |
| SL | 1991-2002 | 2,218 |
| L-Series | 2000-2005 | 1,746 |
| Aura | 2007-2010 | 1,436 |
| Outlook | 2007-2010 | 1,352 |
| SC | 1991-2002 | 709 |
| SKY | 2007-2010 | 516 |
| SW | 1993-2001 | 209 |
| Astra | 2008-2009 | 164 |
| Relay | 2005-2007 | 122 |
The Ion stands out. The EPA rates it for just five model years, 2003 to 2007, yet owners logged more complaints about it than about the Vue across nine.
Read the table with three things in mind:
- Each complaint is one owner's account. NHTSA logs what owners tell it; nobody has ruled on it. A count is not a failure rate or a reliability score.
- Sales volume moves the count. A model sold in big numbers collects more complaints than a niche one like the SKY roadster or the Relay van.
- Brief and late Saturns show smaller counts. The Astra ran just two model years, and the 2007-2010 Aura, Outlook and SKY have been on the road far less long than the 1990s SL and SC.

What every Saturn has in common now
Age. With the line ending at the 2010 model year, every Saturn is at least sixteen model years old in 2026, and the early SL, SC and SW cars are past thirty. That is why so many end up parked: on a car this old, one big repair bill can top the car's whole value. Our guides to an old or high-mileage car and to repairs that cost more than the car walk through that choice.
Many Saturns for sale have also been sitting a long time. Flat tires, a dead battery and a stale tank do not stop a sale. If yours has not moved in years, read our guide to a car left parked too long.
How to sell a Saturn that won't run
You don't strip it or bring it anywhere. Our truck comes to your Saturn, parked in a yard, a carport or behind the shed.
- Note the model year and the odometer reading; your registration card shows the year.
- Tell us if it cranks, if the wheels turn, and which parts are damaged or missing.
- Check you have the title. Lost it? Start with selling a junk car with no title.
- Give the address where it sits.

When it is gone, cancel the plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Can I still sell a Saturn when the brand no longer exists?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and that includes makes nobody sells new anymore. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
- Which Saturn draws the most NHTSA complaints?
- The Ion. Its owners had sent NHTSA 4,343 complaints by our October 10, 2026 count. The Vue (2,395) and the SL (2,218) come next. These are Saturn complaint tallies, not a reliability score, and a big seller naturally racks up more.
- My Saturn has sat for years and the battery is dead. Does that matter?
- No. The car does not need to start or roll. Tell us it does not run, say where it is parked, and the truck comes to it.
- Do I need the title to sell an old Saturn?
- It helps, and the rules on a missing title depend on your state. For a Saturn without a title, our no-title junk car guide covers the usual fixes.
