Selling a dead or junk Suzuki Reno
Three of the Suzuki Reno's four recall campaigns are about its lights: the low beams, the daytime running lights and the headlight circuit. The Reno ran for just four model years, 2005 to 2008, and owners had filed 173 complaints about it with NHTSA by October 10, 2026.

What Reno owners reported, year by year
With no model history on file here, the Reno's four EPA years are split in two below, using NHTSA's numbers.
2005-2006: air bags and the headlight wiring
The 2005 has 32 complaints, and 18 of them name the air bags. The 2006 has 63, the most of any Reno year: 20 name the power train, 13 the air bags and 10 the exterior lighting. Three 2006 complaints report a fire.
Two recalls cover these years only. Recall 07V452 says low beams or daytime running lights may stop working because a splice pack on the wiring harness melts. NHTSA counts 93,963 vehicles in that campaign, and not all of them need be Renos. Recall 12V397 covers 2005-2006 Renos and 2004-2006 Forenzas built from September 23, 2003, through March 7, 2006, for poor contact between headlight terminals. The listed fix was two heat-shrink crimps. Its 101,688 vehicles count both models.
Recall 07V315 also reaches the 2006 and 2007: a front seat belt tongue that may not latch into the buckle. Its 75,697-vehicle total may take in models besides the Reno.
2007-2008: the power train
On the 2007, 23 of 55 complaints name the power train. On the 2008, it's 10 of 23, with 5 more naming the engine. Over all four years the power train tops the list, at 53 complaints.
Recall 14V262 is the one that reaches every Reno year. It covers 2005-2008 Renos and 2004-2008 Forenzas built from September 1, 2003, through July 30, 2008, for heat in the headlight circuit. Dealers were to fit a new signal switch and DRL module plus a jumper relay kit. Its 184,244 vehicles count both models.
Reno complaints and recalls by model year
Owner complaints below come from the NHTSA file pulled October 10, 2026. If a recall covers several Reno years, it is listed under each one.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes / fires / injured | Recall campaigns | Parts named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2005 | 32 | 1 / 1 / 1 | 3 | Air bags 18, exterior lighting 5, gasoline fuel system 2 |
| 2006 | 63 | 4 / 3 / 3 | 4 | Power train 20, air bags 13, exterior lighting 10 |
| 2007 | 55 | 1 / 2 / 5 | 2 | Power train 23, air bags 13, electrical system 8 |
| 2008 | 23 | 2 / 1 / 1 | 1 | Power train 10, engine 5, vehicle speed control 2 |
| All years | 173 | 8 / 7 / 10 | 4 | Power train 53, air bags 46, electrical system 17 |
No complaint reports a death. The 2008 Reno is low partly because it was the final year, giving owners less time to file.
Repair it or sell it?
- Dim or dead headlights? Put the VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup. Three campaigns touch the Reno's lights, and an open one may explain the problem.
- Is your 2006-2008 Reno having power train trouble? For those Reno years, the power train drew more owner reports than any other part. Our bad transmission guide lists symptoms worth noting before a shop visit.
- Lights, gauges or power that cut in and out? See electrical problems before paying for a long diagnosis.
- Put the quote next to the car's value. Look up what a running Reno with similar miles brings. When the repair matches or beats that figure, repairs cost more than it is worth walks through the choice.
Selling the Reno whole
- Write down the Reno's VIN, its odometer reading and what it's doing wrong.
- Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us if the Reno is in a driveway, at the curb or at a shop, and if its wheels turn. Our truck goes to it, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
- Keep the battery, wheels and converter in place. Anything already removed affects the offer, so list it.
- Once your Suzuki is on the truck in Reno, the driver checks a photo ID and takes the title. Lost the title? Read selling with no title. Then check after you sell for plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Which Suzuki Reno year has the most NHTSA complaints?

- Are the Reno headlight recalls only for the Reno?
- No. Recall 12V397 also covers 2004-2006 Forenzas, and 14V262 also covers 2004-2008 Forenzas. The vehicle counts NHTSA lists for those campaigns, 101,688 and 184,244, include both models.
- Will you take a Reno that won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and there is free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us it doesn't start and where it's parked.
- Should I pull parts off the Reno before selling it?
- No. Sell the whole car as it sits. Already missing the wheels or battery? Mention it up front, because it changes the offer.
