Selling a junk or non-running Suzuki Forenza
Forenza owners named the power train in 277 of their 907 NHTSA complaints on the 2004-2008 cars, by our October 10, 2026 count. Headlights are the other thread. Suzuki recalled the Forenza three separate times for wiring in the headlamp and daytime running light circuits.

Where the Forenza's complaints cluster
No generation split exists in our data for the Forenza, so this page groups the EPA's 2004-2008 model years by what owners reported. The EPA lists two versions: the sedan, filed as a compact car, and the Forenza Wagon, a small station wagon.
2004: the launch year carries five recalls
The 2004 has the fewest complaints, 63, and the most recall campaigns, five. Its top complaint areas are exterior lighting (11) and engine and engine cooling (9).
Two of its campaigns are shared with the Verona. Recall 03V426 covers a dual-stage driver's air bag that could deploy in the wrong sequence; dealers added an adapting wiring harness. Its notice says owner letters began October 30, 2003, going to Verona owners, so its 7,797 vehicles are a shared count. Recall 05V022 covers a brake light switch that could slip out of adjustment if the pedal was pushed upward or rearward. That campaign lists 37,796 vehicles and appears in the Verona's recall list too.
2005-2006: air bags, then the peak year
The 2005 drew 156 complaints, with air bags first at 43, exterior lighting at 24 and power train at 23. The 2006 drew 280, more than any other Forenza year. Power train leads it at 89, air bags follow at 52 and the electrical system at 42. Thirty complaints on the 2006 report an injury.
None of the six campaigns is an air bag recall for these two years. The only air bag campaign in the Forenza's list, 03V426, is for the 2004. Recall 07V315 covers 2006-2007 front seat belt tongues that might not latch, or could pop out of the buckle; dealers replaced both front buckles. That campaign counts 75,697 vehicles and may include other models.
2007-2008: power train, and a high fire count on the 2007
Power train leads both years: 103 of the 2007's 256 complaints and 62 of the 2008's 152. The 2007 also has 25 complaints that report a fire, the most of any Forenza year. Across all five years, 55 complaints report a fire.
The three headlight recalls, side by side
- 07V452 (2004-2006): a melted splice pack in the wiring harness could leave the low beams or daytime running lights dead. Dealers spliced the power wires. 93,963 vehicles in the campaign.
- 12V397 (2004-2006 Forenza and 2005-2006 Reno): poor contact between terminals raised resistance in the headlight circuit. Dealers reconnected the wires with two heat-shrink crimps. 101,688 vehicles, Reno included.
- 14V262 (2004-2008 Forenza and 2005-2008 Reno): heat in the circuit. Dealers replaced the signal switch, added a jumper relay kit and replaced the DRL module in the instrument panel harness. 184,244 vehicles, Reno included.
Forenza complaints and recalls by model year
Forenza complaints owners sent NHTSA, counted up to October 10, 2026. Later Forenzas have been driven fewer years, so they've drawn fewer reports, though even a 2008 Forenza is an old car by now. When one campaign reaches over several years, each of those rows shows it.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Fires | Injured | Recall campaigns | Most-named component |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | 63 | 9 | 5 | 6 | 5 | Exterior lighting (11) |
| 2005 | 156 | 5 | 7 | 9 | 3 | Air bags (43) |
| 2006 | 280 | 19 | 8 | 30 | 4 | Power train (89) |
| 2007 | 256 | 12 | 25 | 10 | 2 | Power train (103) |
| 2008 | 152 | 14 | 10 | 8 | 1 | Power train (62) |
No complaint on any Forenza year reports a death.
Repair it or sell it?
See how the Forenza repair bill stacks up against a running one from your year. If the gap is small, fixing it rarely pays back.
- Start at NHTSA's recall search with your VIN. Headlight wiring that was never fixed under 07V452, 12V397 or 14V262 can explain dead low beams or running lights.
- Transmission or drivetrain trouble? That is the Forenza's most common complaint area. Get a written quote, and read the bad transmission guide before you pay for it.
- Lights or other circuits acting up? The electrical problems guide covers how to judge a wiring repair.
- Still unsure? Read our repair-versus-value guide.
Selling your Forenza whole
- Collect the facts: VIN, odometer reading, sedan or wagon, and the trouble.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe its spot and condition: rolling or not, steering or locked, tires flat or full. A car in a tight garage or a back yard needs a different truck than one at the curb.
- Leave every part on it, including the wheels and the catalytic converter. Mention anything already removed.
- Our driver collects the Forenza title and looks at your photo ID. Title missing? See selling with no title. Plates and insurance afterward are covered in after you sell.

Questions people ask
- Which Forenza model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2006, with 280 of the 907 complaints owners filed for the 2004-2008 Forenza by our October 10, 2026 count. Next comes the 2007 at 256. On both, power train is the component named most.
- How many times was the Forenza recalled for headlights?
- Three campaigns deal with headlamp or daytime running light circuits: 07V452 (2004-2006), 12V397 (2004-2006) and 14V262 (2004-2008). The last two also cover the Suzuki Reno, so their vehicle counts are not Forenza-only. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls; an unfinished campaign shows up there.
- Do you take a Forenza whose transmission quit or that will not crank?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Mention if the wheels turn and where the car sits; that sets which truck we send.
