Selling a dead or junk Suzuki Verona

One model year, the 2004, drew more than seven in ten Verona complaints. That is 155 of the 216 owners sent NHTSA on 2004-2006 Veronas through October 10, 2026, and engine and engine cooling tops its list at 58.

A Daewoo with a Suzuki badge

Wikipedia lists Daewoo, under General Motors, as the maker of this mid-size car, built from 2000 to 2006 with plants including Bupyeong, South Korea. Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign designed it. Engines in Wikipedia's entry are a 2.0-liter four and a 2.0 or 2.5-liter inline six. It also names the Suzuki Kizashi as the Verona's successor. The EPA has the Verona for only three model years, 2004-2006.

Owner complaints on the Verona logged at NHTSA through October 10, 2026. The 2006 Verona has the fewest years in use, which keeps its total lower. A recall reaching more than one year is counted in each.

Known problems by year

2004: the engine, and five recalls

Engine and engine cooling has 65 complaints across all three years, and 58 are on the 2004. The other 7 are on the 2005, so the 2006 has none. All 13 fuel system complaints are on the 2004 as well.

The one fuel system recall in the list, 04V396, covers the 2004: a fault in the adaptive fuel control logic could let the air-fuel mix run lean enough during deceleration to stall the engine. Dealers reprogrammed the engine control module, starting September 14, 2004. 16,488 vehicles in the campaign.

The 2004 has four more campaigns:

  • 03V333: a sensor in the driver's seat belt buckle could be out of place and stop the tongue from going in. Dealers replaced the buckle. 4,548 vehicles.
  • 03V426: the driver's dual-stage air bag might fire its stages out of order. The fix was an adapter harness, with owner letters starting October 30, 2003. 7,797 vehicles, and the Forenza is in the same campaign.
  • 05V022: force pushing the brake pedal up or back could knock the brake light switch out of adjustment, so the brake lamps might not work right. 37,796 vehicles, a count shared with the Forenza.
  • 14V363: described below, since it reaches all three years.

2005-2006: air bags, then very little

The 2005 drew 53 complaints, led by air bags with 9. The 2005 holds the Verona's single complaint that reports a death. Four on the 2005 report a fire. The 2006 has 8 complaints, 6 of them power train.

Recall 05V507 covers 2005-2006 Veronas whose power steering pump pulley could come off the pump because its wall was too thin. Dealers inspected the pulley and replaced it if needed. 592 vehicles.

All years: the running light module

Recall 14V363 covers 2004-2006 Veronas built June 2003 to October 2005. Heat could build inside the daytime running light module in the instrument panel. Dealers replaced the module, starting November 5, 2014. 25,899 vehicles, and the notice names only the Verona.

Should you repair it?

The Verona was sold for just three model years. Get a written quote before deciding, and compare it with the going price for a running one.

  1. Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. A 2004 that stalls when slowing down may never have had the 04V396 reprogram.
  2. Engine overheating or knocking? The blown engine guide explains when replacing one stops making sense.
  3. Won't start at all? See selling a car that doesn't run.

Selling a Verona whole

  1. Write down three things: VIN, miles, and what is broken.
  2. Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Explain where the Verona sits and if it can be pushed. That decides what kind of truck shows up.
  4. Keep it whole, and list any part that is already gone.
  5. Hand the driver the signed title. Plates and insurance are covered in after you sell.

Questions people ask

Why does the 2004 Verona have so many complaints?
It holds 155 of the 216 complaints owners filed for the 2004-2006 Verona by the October 10, 2026 count, and 58 of them are filed under engine and engine cooling. It is also the only year with the stalling recall, 04V396. The 2006 has just 8, partly because it has had the fewest years in use.
What was the Verona stalling recall?
Recall 04V396 covers the 2004. A fault in the adaptive fuel control logic could make the air-fuel mix lean enough during deceleration to stall the engine. Dealers reprogrammed the engine control module, starting September 14, 2004. The campaign counts 16,488 vehicles.
Do you buy a Verona with a seized or overheated engine?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. You sell the whole car as it sits.
