Selling a junk or non-running Suzuki XL7
One model year holds more than a third of the XL7's complaints. The 2007 accounts for 138 of the 380 that owners sent NHTSA about the 2001-2009 XL7 through October 10, 2026. Next is the 2008 at 74. Every complaint filed under the engine, and 37 of 42 filed under steering, are on those two years.

If your XL7 sits idle waiting on a repair bigger than its value, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
Two kinds of XL7
The early XL7 was tied to the Grand Vitara. The EPA files some of them as "Grand Vitara XL7," and Wikipedia lists the Suzuki XL-7 as related to the second-generation Grand Vitara. The recalls follow the same line: all three campaigns on the 2001-2006 XL7 also appear in the Grand Vitara's recall list, while the two 2007 campaigns do not.
The photo at the top shows a different vehicle that carries the name now. Wikipedia says Suzuki has built an XL7 at its Cikarang plant in Bekasi, Indonesia since January 2020, covered in its article on the Ertiga, a family of multi-purpose vehicles. That model has nothing to do with the complaints and recalls on this page.
Known problems, 2001-2006 model years
These six years hold 163 complaints.
Speed control and the accelerator cable. All 21 complaints filed under vehicle speed control are on the 2001-2005, with the most on the 2002 (7). Recall 03V512 covers 2001-2004 XL7s: the accelerator cable's plastic casing cap, fixed at the firewall, could crack. Dealers replaced the cable. The campaign counts 196,876 vehicles, the Grand Vitara included.
Air bags on the 2004. Air bags lead the 2004 with 26 of its 45 complaints. There is no air bag recall in the XL7's list. One complaint on the 2004 and one on the 2005 report a death.
Brakes. Hydraulic service brakes show up on the 2002 (4) and the 2004 (5). Under recall 05V452, dealers swapped front brake discs that might break on 16-inch-wheel SUVs used hard. Its 801 vehicles were on St. Thomas Island, and the campaign also lists the Grand Vitara.
Steering belt pulley. Recall 10V250 covers 2005-2006 XL-7s and the 2006 Grand Vitara: the tension adjuster pulley for the belt that runs the power steering pump and air conditioner compressor. Dealers replaced it. 46,549 vehicles in the campaign.
Known problems, 2007-2009 model years
These three years hold 217 complaints, nearly all on the 2007 and 2008.
2007. Air bags lead with 28, then steering with 19 and engine with 16. Two recalls apply. Recall 07V277 covers glass that may have been installed with the wrong primer, failing the federal windshield mounting standard; dealers inspected and replaced any windshield, liftgate glass or fixed side glass installed incorrectly. It counts 921 vehicles. Recall 12V597 replaced the fuel pump module on 2,830 XL-7s sold or registered in Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas and built June 13 to December 22, 2006.
2008. Steering leads with 18 complaints and engine follows with 15. Eight complaints are filed under electronic stability control. No recall campaign covers the 2008.
2009. The last XL7 has five complaints and no recalls. As the youngest, it has had the fewest years in service to draw them.

Is it worth fixing?
Get the repair price in writing. Then check what a running XL7 with similar miles brings. When the two land close together, selling it as it sits saves you the gamble.
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. On a 2007 from Arizona, California, Nevada or Texas, ask about 12V597 before you replace a fuel pump yourself.
- Engine gone on a 2007 or 2008? Those two years hold every engine complaint. The blown engine guide covers whether a replacement makes sense.
- Steering noise or heavy steering? On a 2005-2006, ask whether 10V250 was done.
- Several problems at once? See selling a junk truck or SUV.
How to sell your XL7 whole
- Have ready: VIN, mileage, FWD or AWD, and what is wrong.
- Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe where it is: street, driveway, garage or shop, and whether it rolls and steers. That tells us which truck to send.
- Keep it in one piece: wheels, battery, converter. Anything missing goes in your description.
- Have the title signed and ready for the driver. Title lost? Start with selling with no title.
