Selling a junk or dead car in Brigham City
Brigham City gives a parked car one day. Section 131.005 counts a vehicle as abandoned after just over 24 hours left alone on private property. Utah's state rule gives it a full week. A dead sedan left at a cousin's house can become a tow before the weekend is over. We buy whole non-running and junk cars here in Box Elder County. You'd sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

The one-day presumption, and the barrier rule
Subsection (2) is the clock: "a vehicle shall be presumed to be abandoned if it is left unattended on private property for a period in excess of 24 hours." Subsection (3) lets the landowner ask for removal, "provided proper city licensing has been granted to the towing company." And the bill? "The costs for removal of the vehicle shall be the responsibility of the motor vehicle owner."
On land you own, subsection (B) applies instead. It's unlawful "to cause or permit scrap, metal, junk, wrecked, abandoned or unlicensed vehicles or vehicle parts to remain on any real property or premises, unless in connection with a lawfully situated and licensed business." Then the line that settles most driveway questions: "Any abandoned or unlicensed vehicles must be stored behind a legally constructed barrier from the view from street or adjoining properties." An expired-registration pickup parked where Brigham City neighbors can see it is the exact case this covers.
Street parking and snow
Section 72.021 caps street parking at "Longer than 48 consecutive hours in one location on any public street or highway." Snow tightens it: no parking "during any snowstorm or within 24 hours following the cessation of snow after any snowstorm." If plows end up working around your car, the code says it "will be presented to be abandoned" and can be hauled off, and "All costs for removal will be borne by the owner." The mayor may exempt particular properties that lack off-street parking, so ask city hall if that might be you.
Box Elder's title office
Utah titles are a state document, handled by the Tax Commission's Motor Vehicle Division. Its office list shows a Brigham City counter at 35 East 100 South (435-734-3341). Measured as the crow flies, Brigham City's center is roughly 2 miles west of it. The Utah DMV site has hours.
Signing the car away
- Utah skips the notary. Owners listed with AND each sign; with OR, either one may.
- A Brigham City seller owes the buyer that signed title inside 48 hours, along with the registration.
- Mileage goes on form TC-891 for any car younger than two decades.
- In the DMV's view, a bill of sale is key proof that the car changed hands. TC-843 is its optional form.
- Box Elder isn't a testing county, so no emissions paper changes hands.
Unscrew the plate unless the buyer is getting it. Tickets tied to a plate left on a sold car may come back to you, the DMV warns. Next, file the sold notice: online through MVP, by mail on TC-502, or by phone at 1-800-DMV-UTAH.
Title gone missing? Form TC-123 does double duty. It orders a $6.00 duplicate, or its part two signs ownership straight over to the buyer. Junk car with no title and after you sell have more.

Getting an offer
Brigham City sellers can ring (877) 421-6008 or fill in the offer form. The form covers the rest about your Brigham City car. Pickup happens behind your fence, at the relative's house, or at the Brigham City shop where it died.
Questions people ask
- My dead car is parked at a relative's house in Brigham City. Is that a problem?
- It can be, and quickly. Brigham City's Section 131.005 treats a vehicle sitting unattended on somebody else's land for more than one day as presumed abandoned. The landowner may then call a city-licensed tow company, and the code bills the car's owner for the removal.
- Can an unregistered car stay in my own Brigham City driveway?
- Only out of sight. Under subsection (B), Brigham City wants an abandoned or unlicensed vehicle hidden behind a lawfully built barrier so the street and neighbors cannot see it.
- Will a Box Elder County buyer expect an emissions certificate?
- No. Utah tests emissions in just five counties: Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber and Cache. Box Elder isn't one.
- Does a Utah title signature have to be notarized?
- Utah's DMV says a title needs no notary. Look between the owners' names: AND means each of you signs, OR means one of you can.
