Selling a non-running car in North Ogden
Towing an older car out of North Ogden can cost the owner the car itself. Take a car whose model year is at least eight years old. If it goes unclaimed for 30 days after the original notice, or its owner can't be located, Utah may give the towing carrier a certificate of sale. North Ogden's own code wasn't online where we looked, and it may add local rules. If the car is stuck either way, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

How a tow can turn into a lost title
Part 11 of Utah Code 41-1a dates the car's age from the day it was impounded and takes the model year from the VIN. By that count, a car built eight model years before the tow falls under the 30-day rule, and every day at the lot uses up part of the window. Our towed or impounded guide covers what to do while the car is still yours.
When Utah calls a car abandoned
Utah's definition works on two timers. One is 48 hours unattended along a highway. The other is seven days on public or private land without permission from whoever controls it. Both count as an infraction. With reasonable grounds, an officer can have the car taken away.
A car in your own driveway has your consent, which state law treats differently.
The Ogden title office
The Weber County office we looked up is at 2447 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden (801-297-7780). As the crow flies, it's around 6 miles south of central North Ogden, and the county may have others. Lost the title? The DMV issues a $6.00 duplicate through its website or on Form TC-123. The same form also lets you sign the car straight over to a buyer.
Papers for the North Ogden buyer
- The title, signed with no notary. Two owners joined by AND both sign.
- Registration and emissions papers. The current registration certificate goes to the buyer, plus any current emission certificate, since Weber County tests emissions.
- TC-891, the odometer statement you both sign. A car two decades old or older is exempt.
- A bill of sale. The DMV says it shows the title moved legally, and TC-843 is the state form.
Hang on to the plates unless the buyer is buying them. Then notify the DMV of the sale online, with TC-502, by mail or at 1-800-DMV-UTAH. After you sell has the full list.

Questions people ask
- Is there a North Ogden ordinance on junk cars?
- We couldn't find one published online, and the rules on this page are Utah's. Check with North Ogden before assuming nothing local applies.
- Could the tow lot end up owning my impounded car?
- Yes, for a North Ogden car at least eight model years old. Utah may issue the towing carrier a certificate of sale when 30 days pass after the original notice with no claim, or when the owner can't be located. Age is figured from the impound date.
- What does the buyer get from me?
- Your signed title, the current registration certificate, and any current emission certificate. Weber County tests emissions.
- Do I need a bill of sale?
- The DMV calls it important as proof that ownership legally passed. TC-843 is available if you want a form.
