About the EX90

Wikipedia lists production from May 2024, with US assembly at Volvo's plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Volvo's EX90 is a big electric SUV built alongside the Polestar 3. You can get it with one motor in back, or with two motors and all-wheel drive. The 2024-2025 cars use the SPA2 platform at 400 volts with a 104 kWh (gross) battery. From 2026, Wikipedia lists an 800-volt SPA2 and a 111 kWh (gross) pack. EPA data covers the 2025 to 2027 model years.

Problems reported so far

2025. Of 72 complaints, 28 name the electrical system, 9 are "unknown or other" and 7 name the power train. Owners reported 2 crashes and 1 injury. All three recalls are for this year, and each campaign lists only the EX90:

  • 24V869000: the bolts for the free-standing second-row seat may not have been tightened properly. 11 vehicles.
  • 25V071000: a software error in the low power controller may close the headlight shutters over the high and low beams while driving. 2,061 vehicles.
  • 25V654000: a spindle nut can come off the power tailgate drive units, letting the tailgate drop suddenly. Owners are told not to use the power tailgate until both drive units are replaced. 1,119 vehicles.

2026. Seven complaints so far, five naming the electrical system. A newer car has had far less time to collect complaints.
