Problems by generation

These are owner complaints on file at NHTSA by October 10, 2026. A recent XC60 has far fewer years of driving behind it than a 2010 XC60, so its report count is lower.

First generation, 2010-2017 model years

Per Wikipedia, the first XC60 was built from October 2008 to April 2017 on the P3 platform it shared with the V70 and S80. Engines ranged from a 2.0-liter four to 2.9 and 3.2-liter sixes, with 6 and 8-speed automatics.

These years hold 321 complaints. Wipers stand out: visibility and wiper is named 53 times on the 2010 through 2013, including 24 times on the 2013. The 2016 leans on the engine, named 15 times out of 38.

Recalls tied to these years include a driver's seat side panel on the 2010 that could release the seat belt's attachment in some side impacts (09V445000, 8,438 XC60s). There's also front seat belt anchor cables on 2009-2016 cars (20V378000), in a campaign of 308,260 vehicles across many Volvos.

Second generation, 2018 model year onward

Built since March 2017 on the SPA platform, with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, an 8-speed Aisin automatic, and mild and plug-in hybrid versions. Wikipedia lists a 10.4 kWh battery.

These years hold 349 complaints, led by the electrical system. Recalls that are XC60-only:

• Tailgate lift arms (19V046000), 2018-2019. In cold weather the arms may freeze and separate from the vehicle. Dealers fit an improved design.
• Front wiper nuts (20V503000), 2018-2020. The nuts may not have been tight enough for the wipers to work properly.

Shared campaigns matter too. Recall 22V793000 covers a 2022-2023 engine software error that may stop the engine from starting. Recall 25V392000 covers 2022-2026 XC60 plug-in hybrids; owners are told not to use B mode until the repair is done. Rearview camera software on 2022-2025 cars (25V282000) lists 413,151 vehicles across many models, so that number is not the XC60's alone.

Repair, or sell it as it sits?

Get the XC60 repair estimate on paper and compare it with what one that runs sells for. A newer SUV still under factory coverage is a different case from a high-mile 2010.

How to sell your XC60 whole

1. Collect the VIN, mileage and what's wrong. Note if it's a plug-in T8.
2. Request an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
3. Tell us where it sits and if it rolls. If it's at a body shop after a crash, say so.
4. Keep it complete, charging cable included on a plug-in. Mention anything already removed.
