Selling a broken or wrecked Volvo V60
On October 10, 2026, the V60 showed 21 NHTSA recall campaigns and only 85 owner complaints. Most campaigns span many Volvo models together, so the list tells you more about common parts and software than about the V60 wagon itself.

Two generations, two platforms
Wikipedia lists the first V60 from 2010 to 2018 on the P3 platform, with four-, five- and six-cylinder gas engines. The second went into production in February 2018 on the SPA platform with a 2.0-liter four, and its T6 and T8 Twin Engine plug-ins carried an 11.2 kWh battery for 2019-2021. EPA data covers the 2015 to 2026 model years, including Cross Country and plug-in T8 Recharge versions.
What owners and recalls point to
2015-2016: engine complaints. These two years hold 46 of the 85 complaints, and the engine is named in 12 on the 2015 and 10 on the 2016. Two big recalls reach these cars. 19V849000 replaced all four door latches on 2014-2017 cars because a part inside could break; its 144,937-vehicle count includes S60 versions. 20V378000 replaced the front seat belt anchor cables on V60s through 2018; that 308,260-vehicle campaign spans many Volvo models.
2019-2022: software and fuses. The 2020 has 12 complaints, with service brakes at 3. Campaign 20V144000 updated emergency braking software on 2019-2020 cars, and 21V414000 replaced a fuse that could let the low-pressure fuel pump quit. Both campaigns cover several models.
Plug-in cars. 25V179000 covers 2020-2022 V60 plug-in hybrids: the high-voltage battery module may short-circuit, and owners are told not to charge until it is replaced. 25V392000 tells owners of 2024-2025 V60 plug-ins not to use "B" mode until a brake software repair is done.
2023-2025: camera software. Campaigns 25V282000 and 25V908000 fix a rearview camera picture that might not show up. Both campaigns name 413,151 vehicles spread over many Volvo models.
Complaints and recalls by model year

| 2016 | 23 | 4 | Engine (10) |
| 2017 | 6 | 6 | Fuel/propulsion (2) |
| 2018-2019 | 4 | 2 / 4 | Brakes, wipers, structure (1 each) |
| 2020 | 12 | 5 | Service brakes (3) |
| 2021-2022 | 4 | 4 / 4 | Electrical system (2 combined) |
| 2023 | 5 | 5 | Lane departure, seat belts (1 each) |
| 2024 | 6 | 3 | Electrical, wipers (2 each) |
| 2026 | 2 | 1 | Brakes, lighting (1 each) |
No 2025 complaints appear in the count. The latest V60s are still building up reports.
Fix or sell?
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall page. Recall work is done at no charge by dealers.
- Plug-in with a battery warning? Check 25V179000 first, then read hybrid battery failed.
- 2015-2016 V60 with engine problems? Get the diagnosis on paper and weigh it against the value of one that runs. Blown engine covers that call.
- Recall still open and you'd rather not wait? Open recall explains selling the car anyway.
Selling the V60 whole
Tell us the year, whether it's a Cross Country or a plug-in, and what's wrong. For your V60, get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008 and say where it is. Leave the charging cable with your V60 plug-in if you still have it. Loan not paid off yet? Read still owe on the loan.

Questions people ask
- Why does the V60 have so many recalls but few complaints?
- Most of its 21 recall campaigns cover several Volvo models at once, built on shared parts and software. By October 10, 2026, NHTSA had 85 complaints from V60 owners, and the newest V60s haven't been driven as long.
- Is there a battery recall on the plug-in V60?
- Yes. Campaign 25V179000 covers 2020-2022 V60 plug-in hybrids among other models. The high-voltage battery module may short-circuit, and owners are told not to charge until dealers inspect and replace the module. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy a V60 with an open recall or a dead hybrid battery?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. If your V60 is a plug-in or has an open recall, mention it when you reach out.
