Here you'll find where the Italian brand started, how far the Giulia and Stelvio complaint counts tower over every other model, and the seven Alfa Romeo nameplates the EPA has listed for fuel economy since 1984.
From A.L.F.A. to Stellantis
Alfa Romeo was founded on 24 June 1910, under the name A.L.F.A. The first model in Wikipedia's list is the ALFA 24 HP, built from 1910 to 1914. Today the company is based in Turin, Italy, and its parent is Stellantis Europe.
Wikipedia says the company "has often been among the first users of new technologies." The double overhead cam engine it is known for first ran in its 1914 Grand Prix car. The first Alfa Romeo road car with that kind of engine, the 6C 1500 Sport, came in 1928.
Other names in Wikipedia's list of its models include the RL (1922-1927), the P2 (1924-1930), the 8C (1931-1939) and the 158/159 (1938-1951). Wikipedia also names Alfa Romeo's plant in Arese as a production site.
What US buyers got
The EPA list covers model years 1984 through 2026, and it holds only seven Alfa Romeo models. They fall into two groups.
- The older cars: the Spider convertible (1984-2009 in the list), the Milano sedan (1987-1989) and the 164 sedan (1991-1995).
- The current cars: the 4C (2015-2020), the Giulia sedan (2017-2026), the Stelvio SUV (2018-2026) and the Tonale (2024-2026).
No Alfa Romeo model in the list starts between the 164 in 1991 and the 4C in 2015.
Complaints filed with NHTSA
Each number below is how many complaints Alfa Romeo owners had sent to NHTSA by October 10, 2026. A complaint is a driver's own account, not a finding by the agency. A late Giulia or Stelvio is still young, so its Alfa Romeo complaint count keeps climbing.
| Model | Years in the EPA list | NHTSA complaints |
|---|---|---|
| Giulia | 2017-2026 | 278 |
| Stelvio | 2018-2026 | 208 |
| Tonale | 2024-2026 | 14 |
| 164 | 1991-1995 | 12 |
| Spider | 1984-2009 | 4 |
| 4C | 2015-2020 | 1 |
| Milano | 1987-1989 | 1 |
The Giulia and Stelvio together account for 486 complaints, far more than every other Alfa Romeo combined. Both are still in the EPA list for 2026. The 4C, sold from 2015 to 2020, drew just one.
The Tonale's 14 cover only three model years. Give it time before reading much into that number.
Selling a dead Alfa Romeo whole
Leave every part on the car. A Giulia with a dead battery or a Spider with a seized motor goes as one piece on the truck.
- Find the year, model and mileage. The VIN helps if the badge or trim is missing.
- Describe its state honestly: does it crank, can it be pushed, and is anything damaged or removed?
- Tell us about the title. If you can't find it, read selling a junk car with no title.
- Give the address where the truck should meet the car, and note anything tight, like a narrow alley or an underground garage.
If an old Spider or Milano has been parked for years, see selling a car that has been sitting. When the sale is done, take care of the plates and paperwork.

Questions people ask
- Do you buy an Alfa Romeo that doesn't run?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, Alfa Romeos included. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
- Which Alfa Romeo has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The Giulia. When we counted on October 10, 2026, Giulia owners had filed 278 NHTSA complaints and Stelvio owners 208. A complaint is one driver's report to the agency. It is not a verdict on the car, and a model with more cars on the road tends to draw more.
- Why does the Tonale have so few complaints?
- It is new. The Tonale first appears in the EPA list for 2024, so owners have had far less time to file reports than Giulia or Stelvio owners. A low count on a young model says little yet.
- Will you take an old Spider or Milano that has sat for years?
- Yes. Age and long storage don't change the offer: we buy whole non-running and junk cars. For an Alfa Romeo pickup, mention flat tires, the name on its title and where it's parked.
