Selling a damaged Alfa Romeo Tonale
One of the Tonale's eight recalls told owners to park outside. Campaign 23V623 covers 2023-2024 Tonale and Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrids where the 12-volt positive cable, the high-voltage connector cable, or both might have left the factory loose. Until a dealer checks them, owners were told to keep the SUV parked away from buildings.

A Tonale is half a Hornet
Wikipedia lists the Dodge Hornet as the Tonale's related model, and every recall NHTSA lists for the Tonale names the Hornet too. Read each vehicle figure below as Tonales plus Hornets. Every Tonale in EPA's data is a plug-in hybrid with AWD; Wikipedia gives its battery as 15.5 kWh lithium-ion. Tonales are built at Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy.
What the recalls cover
- Brake pedal (24V752 and 25V846): the pedal may collapse and cause a loss of brake function. Dealers reinforce the pedal arm. The first covers 2024-2025 cars (21,069 vehicles), the second 2024 plug-in hybrids (5,974).
- Charging cables (23V623): the park-outside campaign above, 4,129 vehicles.
- Rearview camera (25V246): the display may not show the camera image on 2023-2025 cars. 48,527 vehicles.
- Rear seat belts (26V510): rear outboard belts may twist and not retract on 2023-2026 Tonales. 48,777 vehicles.
- Pedestrian alert (23V696): the siren may be missing or disconnected. 4,661 vehicles.
- Labels (24V175 and 24V209): tire placard and manufacturer label errors. 36,094 and 1,201 vehicles.
Service brakes are also the component owners name most in complaints: 4 of 14.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Figures reflect NHTSA's October 10, 2026 complaint download. The Tonale is new to US showrooms, so its owners haven't had long to report problems. Some recalls also list 2023 Tonales, a year that isn't in EPA's data.
| Model year | Owner complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 11 | 2 | 8 | Service brakes (3) |
| 2025 | 2 | 0 | 3 | Unknown or other, service brakes (1 each) |
| 2026 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Unknown or other (1) |
Fix it first, or sell?
On a car this new, check recalls before anything else. Put your VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup; the brake pedal and cable fixes are free dealer work. If the trouble is the hybrid system and no recall covers it, our hybrid battery guide explains how to weigh it. For brake trouble outside the recalls, see bad or seized brakes. Still owe on it? - Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us what it's doing and whether it rolls.
