Selling a broken Alfa Romeo Giulia

Of the 278 complaints Giulia owners have filed with NHTSA, 103 are about the 2017, the first year in EPA's data. Add the 2018 and 2019 and the first three model years hold 236 of them. The 2022 through 2025 have 15 between them.

Giulia trouble spots, three eras

Every figure in this section is a complaint a Giulia owner sent NHTSA, tallied on October 10, 2026; the youngest sedans simply haven't been around long enough to pile any up. Vehicle totals on a recall belong to the entire campaign, and the Stelvio rides along in most Giulia campaigns, so read them as shared.

2017-2019: fuel delivery, engine and electrical

The component owners name most on these three years is the fuel/propulsion system: 26 complaints on the 2017, 23 on the 2018 and 13 on the 2019. Engine and electrical complaints come next. Several recalls sit in the same areas:

  • 25V586 (2017-2019): the fuel pump may fail, cutting fuel flow and drive power. Dealers replace the fuel delivery module. The campaign counts 53,849 vehicles, 2018-2019 Stelvios included.
  • 18V636 (2017-2018, 2.0-liter engines): misfires can overheat the catalytic converter. Dealers check for codes and update the engine control software. 34,357 vehicles, Stelvio included.
  • 19V551 (2018-2019): the body control module may show more fuel than the tank holds. 21,914 vehicles across Giulia and Stelvio.
  • 18V828 (2017-2018 AWD with the 280 hp engine): a brake fluid line can touch a coolant hose clamp. Dealers add a bracket. 6,136 vehicles.
  • 19V148 (2017-2019): brake system module software may keep the driver from switching off adaptive cruise control. 19,114 vehicles.
  • 17V823 (2018): the braking system may have been filled with contaminated brake fluid. 216 vehicles.

2020-2021: fuel sensor housing and brake parts

Complaints fall to 18 on the 2020 and 9 on the 2021, yet those years carry 9 and 6 recall campaigns. On 2020-2021 sedans, 21V878 flags a fuel line sensor housing that can crack and seep gasoline (11,419 vehicles, shared with the Stelvio), and 24V306 covers the same housing on 261 more 2021 Giulias. Next come three small Giulia brake and tire recalls. Rear brake discs could crack (20V714, 8 vehicles). An ABS control unit shaft could come apart in hard stops (21V309, 9 vehicles). Some tires carried a lower load rating than planned (21V848, 185 vehicles).

2022-2026: few complaints so far

The 2024 has 9 complaints, led by "unknown or other," air bags and wheels. No complaints are on file for the 2026 yet. Recall 25V845 covers misrouted wiring that can make the headlights fail on 313 2024 Giulias. Recall 25V667 covers 62,910 Giulias and Stelvios from 2020-2025 whose backup camera image may not show up.

Recalls that run across most years

  • 24V510 (2017-2024): a seat belt buckle switch sensor may be connected wrong. The 337,128-vehicle count also includes the Stelvio, Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500E, so it is not a Giulia-only count.
  • 24V512 (2017-2024): wrong tire pressure and size on the placard. 9,037 vehicles.
  • 23V382 (2017-2020, carbon ceramic brakes): a brake system module software update. 719 vehicles.
  • 24V943 (2019-2020): the fastener between the brake pedal and booster may not have been assembled right. 2,021 vehicles.

Repair it or let it go?

Start with the free work. Many of the problems above have a dealer remedy at no charge, so a recall check comes before any quote.

  1. Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. Our open recall guide covers selling with one still open.
  2. Stalling or losing power on a 2017-2019? Ask the dealer about the fuel pump recall, 25V586, before paying anyone to diagnose it.
  3. Smelling fuel on a 2020-2021? That is the fuel line sensor housing recall territory.
  4. Lights on the dash that won't clear? See check engine light on and electrical problems.
  5. Quote bigger than the car? Weigh it with repairs cost more than it is worth.

Selling a Giulia whole

  1. Write down your Giulia's VIN, its mileage and what's wrong. Say if it's rear-drive or AWD and if the wheels roll.
  2. Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Describe the Giulia's spot: at the curb, in a garage, in a lot or at a dealer's service bay. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
  4. Keep the sedan intact. Alloys, converter and battery remain; flag anything gone already.
  5. Give the driver your signed Giulia title and show your ID. For plates, check after you sell.

Questions people ask

Which Giulia model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
Out of 278 Giulia complaints NHTSA listed on October 10, 2026, the 2017 drew 103, the 2018 drew 87 and the 2019 drew 46. The 2024 and 2025 Giulias are only a couple of years old, so their low counts don't tell us much.
Did Alfa recall the Giulia's fuel pump?
Yes, under campaign 25V586, which reaches 2017-2019 Giulias plus 2018-2019 Stelvios. Per NHTSA, a pump that quits stops fuel reaching the engine and the car loses drive power; Alfa dealers swap the fuel delivery module at no charge. The 53,849-vehicle count spans both nameplates. To check for an open recall repair on your Giulia, enter its VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will you take a Giulia that won't start or won't move?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention the symptom, whether the Giulia will roll once in Neutral, and its spot.
Should I take the wheels or other parts off before I sell?
No. Sell the whole car as it sits, with its alloys and converter still bolted on. Anything a previous owner pulled off belongs in your description.
