The Stelvio in brief
Wikipedia dates Stelvio production from 2016 at the Cassino Plant in Piedimonte San Germano, Italy, on the FCA Giorgio platform; Wikipedia lists the Giulia as its related model. Gas Stelvios use a 2.0-liter turbo four or a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, with ZF 8-speed automatics. EPA lists only gasoline versions, in rear-drive and AWD form.
Our Stelvio counts are the NHTSA owner complaints on file October 10, 2026, and the newest Stelvios have been on the road just a few years. Each recall's vehicle figure spans the full campaign, Giulias often included.
2018: water, wiring and fuel
The 2018's 131 complaints lead with the gasoline fuel system (28), the engine (27) and the electrical system (25). Three of its fires are among the four on file for the model. The recalls that touch only the Stelvio:
- 18V205: water may leak into the body control module and its connectors, and the corrosion can turn on malfunction lights. 12,595 vehicles.
- 18V203: water may leak into the liftgate wiring connectors and opening switch. 12,595 vehicles.
- 18V147: wiper motor software may wrongly read the motor as overheating and limit the wipers. Dealers replace the motor. 1,505 vehicles.
- 18V635 (2018-2019 Quadrifoglio): an engine cooling hose may leak coolant. 674 vehicles.
Shared with the Giulia: the 2.0-liter misfire that can overheat the catalytic converter (18V636, 34,357 vehicles), contaminated brake fluid (17V823, 216), and a fuel pump on 2018-2019 Stelvios that can quit and leave the SUV without drive power (25V586, 53,849). Recall 19V551 adds a fuel gauge that may read high, and 19V148 a cruise control that may not switch off.
2019-2021: brakes and a curtain air bag
Complaints drop to 36, 19 and 7. The recalls shift toward brakes. Recall 24V943 covers a brake pedal-to-booster fastener on 2019-2020 cars (2,021 vehicles). Recall 21V309 covers an ABS unit shaft that can separate under hard braking (9 vehicles). Recall 23V382 updates software on 2018-2020 cars with carbon ceramic brakes (719 vehicles). For the 2020-2021 SUVs, campaign 21V878 targets a cracked fuel line sensor housing that lets gasoline out (11,419 vehicles). On the 2021 alone, 21V221 says a badly crimped clamp may let the side curtain air bag separate from its inflator (1,222 vehicles).
2022-2026: labels, belts and the camera
Fifteen complaints across 2022-2025 and none yet for 2026. Recalls here are mostly paperwork and electronics: tire placards with wrong information (24V512 on 2021-2024, 9,037 vehicles; 24V857 on 204 2023 Stelvios already fixed once), a rearview camera image that may not show (25V667, 2020-2025, 62,910 vehicles), and a seat belt buckle sensor (24V510, 2018-2025). That last campaign's 337,128 vehicles also include the Giulia, Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500E.

Worth fixing?
Check the free fixes before you price anything else. Put the VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup and ask an Alfa Romeo dealer about anything open.
- Lights and odd electrical faults on a 2018: rule out the two water-intrusion recalls before anything else. Beyond that, see electrical problems.
- Coolant loss on a Quadrifoglio: recall 18V635 covers the hose. If the engine overheated anyway, see head gasket or overheating.
- Won't start or loses power: a dealer can check for the fuel pump recall. Our car doesn't run guide covers what to do if it's something else.
- Estimate bigger than a running Stelvio would bring: that's when selling it as it sits usually wins. See repairs cost more than it is worth.
How to sell your Stelvio as it sits
- List the VIN, the odometer and the symptom. Say whether it's AWD and if it can be rolled.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Point us to the SUV: driveway, parking deck or service lot. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Don't strip it. Keep the wheels, catalytic converters and battery on. Mention anything that's already gone.
- Sign over the title and show ID to the driver. Plate handling differs from state to state; see after you sell.

Questions people ask
- Which Stelvio year has the most complaints?
- The 2018 by a wide margin: 131 of the Stelvio's 208 NHTSA complaints, per the October 10, 2026 file. The 2019 follows at 36, then the 2020 at 19. A 2023 or 2025 Stelvio hasn't spent enough seasons in service for its total to mean much.
- Why do so many Stelvio recalls also name the Giulia?
- Wikipedia lists the Giulia as the Stelvio's related model, and the Stelvio rides on the FCA Giorgio platform. Twelve of the 18 Stelvio campaigns name the Giulia as well, so their vehicle totals mix sedans and SUVs.
- My 2018 Stelvio has warning lights and a liftgate that acts up. Is that a recall?
- It might be. Recall 18V205 covers water leaking into the body control module on 2018 Stelvios, which can corrode it and turn on malfunction lights. Recall 18V203 covers water in the liftgate wiring and switch. Run your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Can you pick up a Stelvio that won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Say if your Stelvio rolls when pushed and where it's parked.
