Selling a Cadillac XT6 that's broken down
The XT6 collected 12 recall campaigns in six model years, against 106 owner complaints to NHTSA. Most of those campaigns were tiny: seven counted fewer than 800 vehicles in total, across every GM model they covered. The one that reached the most XT6 owners was the rearview camera.

The XT6, briefly
Wikipedia lists a 2.0-liter LSY four and, in North America, a 3.6-liter LGX V6, both with a 9-speed 9T50 automatic and front- or all-wheel drive. It is built in Spring Hill, Tennessee, on GM's C1XX platform with the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Blazer. It replaced the seven-passenger SRX, and the Vistiq followed it. The first generation ended in North America in 2025; Wikipedia says a second generation is in development.
Three straight years of IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards went to the XT6, per Wikipedia. The 2024, though, got an overall poor rating in the updated moderate overlap test, with a medium to high injury risk for the rear passenger dummy.
Rearview camera and the 2020-2021 cars
Back over prevention, the category that covers backup cameras, shows up in 12 complaints: 6 on the 2020, 4 on the 2021 and 2 on the 2023. Recall 22V709000 covers 2020-2021 XT5, XT6 and Acadia models with the optional Surround Vision feature, whose rearview camera cable connectors may have been crimped improperly. Dealers replace the cables. The campaign counted 95,231 vehicles across the three models, and owner letters went out January 18, 2023.
The 2020 is also the electrical year, with 9 of its 37 complaints. It carries four campaigns, the most of any year: the camera cables, side-curtain air bag modules (20V446000), a fuel pump with a plastic burr left in its jet nozzle (20V639000), and the start-stop transmission accumulator check for missing bolts (20V668000).
Transmission: 2020, 2023 and 2024
Power train complaints total 16. They cluster on the 2020 (5), 2023 (4) and 2024 (7). The 2024 is the one to notice, since power train is nearly half of its 15 complaints. Two campaigns touch the transmission:
- 20V668000 (2020): dealers inspect the start-stop accumulator and replace it if bolts are missing. Its 194,105 count covers many GM cars and SUVs.
- 23V172000 (2023): the transmission may have been built with an incorrect sun gear. Dealers replace the sun gears. 8,744 vehicles, shared with the XT5, Acadia, Blazer and Traverse.
No campaign in our data covers the 2024's transmission complaints.
Fuel system and the smaller campaigns
Three fuel campaigns hit three different years. The XT6 followed its 2020 fuel pump recall with 2021 fuel supply lines that might not be fully seated (21V422000, 572 vehicles). Next came a 2022 all-wheel-drive fuel tank rollover valve that might not seal if the SUV rolls (22V446000, 228 vehicles).
The rest are small:
- 2022: a possibly loose left-rear toe link (22V427000) and a brake fluid cap missing its warning label (22V392000).
- 2023: a door-pillar certification label with tire size printing that may be unreadable (22V708000).
- 2024: a windshield that may have been installed without the right urethane sealant (23V681000).
- 2024-2025: the XT6 gauge cluster can stay blank with the hazards, high beams or turn signals on; new software fixes it (24V459000, 6,942 vehicles shared with the XT5).
Complaints and recalls by model year
XT6 rows use NHTSA's October 10, 2026 complaint download; each multi-year campaign is listed under all the XT6 years it covers.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 37 | 0 | 4 | Electrical system (9), back over prevention (6) |
| 2021 | 18 | 0 | 2 | Back over prevention (4) |
| 2022 | 15 | 1 | 3 | Unknown or other (5) |
| 2023 | 13 | 1 | 2 | Power train (4) |
| 2024 | 15 | 0 | 2 | Power train (7) |
| 2025 | 8 | 0 | 1 | Unknown, service brakes, engine (2 each) |
As the final XT6 year, the 2025 is also the youngest, so its count is the least settled.
Repair or sell?
Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup first. On a 2020-2021 with a dead backup camera, the cable campaign may be the whole answer. On a 2023 that shifts badly, ask a dealer about the sun gear campaign before paying for a diagnosis.
A 2024 with transmission trouble has no campaign to lean on. Put a written estimate next to the selling price of a running XT6 of that year. Our bad transmission guide explains what the quote should list, and electrical problems covers warning lights and dead screens.
Selling your XT6 whole
- Jot down the XT6's VIN, miles and symptoms, and which engine it carries, the 2.0 or the 3.6.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where the XT6 sits and whether it drives or rolls. A big crossover stuck in Park needs the right truck.
- Leave it complete, second-row seats and all. Tell us about anything missing.
- Title and keys leave with the truck. Leased? See leased car first.

Questions people ask
- How many recalls does the Cadillac XT6 have?
- Twelve campaigns across the 2020 to 2025 model years. The 2020 has the most, 4. The biggest by vehicle count is 22V709000, for rearview camera cables on 2020-2021 cars with Surround Vision, at 95,231 vehicles shared with the XT5 and GMC Acadia.
- Which XT6 year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2020: 37 of 106 in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 file. No later XT6 year passes 18, partly because the later cars are younger.
- Will you buy an XT6 with a bad transmission?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Say if the XT6 still drives and where it's sitting.
