Selling a damaged or broken Cadillac Lyriq
One model year carries most of the Lyriq's record. The 2024 holds 89 of the 137 complaints owners have filed with NHTSA about Cadillac's electric SUV, in the agency count dated October 10, 2026, plus 14 of the 21 complaints that report a crash.

If yours is the one with crash damage, a warning-lit dash or a battery that won't take a charge, you have a choice beyond waiting on a repair. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and a damaged EV is one of them. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
The Lyriq in brief
Wikipedia calls it a battery-electric mid-size luxury crossover on GM's BEV3 platform, related to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Honda Prologue and second-generation Acura ZDX. Production started in May 2022, the month Cadillac began taking US orders for the 2023. North American Lyriqs come from Spring Hill, Tennessee. The batteries are 95.7 or 102.0 kWh Ultium packs, and the EPA range runs 303 to 326 miles. In 2024 it was the best-selling luxury midsize electric SUV in the US, per Wikipedia.
There is one generation so far, so the record below goes year by year.
2023: the battery and wiring recalls
The first year has 22 complaints, and exterior lighting leads with 9. Six recall campaigns reach the 2023, more than any later Lyriq:
- 23V367000: connections inside the high-voltage battery pack may be out of position or incorrectly welded. Dealers inspect and, if needed, replace the pack. The campaign counted 33 vehicles and also took in 2022 GMC Hummer EVs.
- 23V682000: body control module software that may not make the pedestrian warning sounds (62 vehicles).
- 23V785000: the bracket anchoring the left-rear and center-rear seat belts may be poorly welded to the seat frame. GM told owners not to use those two seats until the repair is done.
- 24V589000: on all-wheel-drive cars, the anti-lock brakes may activate unexpectedly and release brake pressure. GM fixes it with new brake module software, sent wirelessly or loaded by a dealer. 21,469 vehicles.
- 25V232000: front stabilizer bar bracket bolts that may not be tight (17 vehicles).
- 25V356000: the driver display may go blank while driving, fixed by a software update. At 41,376 vehicles it is the largest Lyriq campaign.
2024: the busiest year
The 2024's 89 complaints lead with the electrical system (23), then service brakes (17) and forward collision avoidance (14). It reports 14 crashes, 3 injuries and 2 fires. Five campaigns cover it: the ABS update (24V589000), the blank display (25V356000), the stabilizer bolts (25V232000), a rearview camera screen that may turn gray with no image (26V082000), and rear drive unit motors that GM replaced (24V320000). That last campaign counted 10 vehicles across the Lyriq, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, Hummer EV SUV and Sierra EV, so few of them were Lyriqs.
2025 and 2026: less time on the road
The 2025 has 19 complaints and the 2026 has 7. These Lyriqs are the newest, so their owners have had the shortest window to report anything. Even so, the 2025 reports 4 crashes and 5 injuries, and 2 of its complaints name the propulsion system.
The 2025's three campaigns are the stabilizer bolts, an owner's manual that misdescribes the rear head restraints (25V193000, 10,643 vehicles), and loose or missing bolts holding the high-voltage battery to the floor (25V483000, 53 vehicles, shared with the 2026 Vistiq). The 2026 has one: a radio reset so the electronic owner's manual downloads (26V114000). That campaign counted 5,861 vehicles across many GM models.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Lyriq counts from NHTSA's flat file, October 10, 2026. Campaigns spanning years show up in each Lyriq year.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Injured | Recall campaigns | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 22 | 2 | 1 | 6 | Exterior lighting (9) |
| 2024 | 89 | 14 | 3 | 5 | Electrical system (23), service brakes (17) |
| 2025 | 19 | 4 | 5 | 3 | Electrical system (4) |
| 2026 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Exterior lighting, electrical system (2 each) |
| 2027 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | None filed yet |
Repair it, or sell it as is?
Start with the recalls. Several Lyriq fixes are software that installs over the air, but the battery, seat belt and drive unit work needs a dealer. Put the VIN into NHTSA's lookup.
Then sort by what's wrong:
- Battery or charging trouble: our EV battery guide covers what to ask before you accept a pack quote.
- Crash damage: if an insurer is involved, see wrecked or totaled and keep the check, sell unrepaired.
- Still financed or leased: see still owe on the loan or leased car before you agree to anything.
Selling a Lyriq whole
- Note the VIN, mileage and the problem, and whether the car powers on and shifts out of Park.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe where the Lyriq is and whether it can roll. One that won't leave Park needs a truck that can drag or lift it, so say so.
- Leave everything on it, charging cable included. Tell us about anything missing.
- Before pickup, sign out of the Cadillac app and wipe your data; clear your data shows how. Have the title and keys ready.

Questions people ask
- Which Lyriq year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2024: 89 of the 137 in NHTSA's October 10, 2026 file. Next are the 2023 (22), the 2025 (19) and the 2026 (7). A 2026 Lyriq has been on the road only briefly, so its small number proves little.
- Has the Lyriq had a battery recall?
- Two small ones. Recall 23V367000 covered 2023 Lyriqs and 2022 Hummer EVs whose high-voltage battery connections may be out of position or badly welded; it counted 33 vehicles. Recall 25V483000 covered 2025 Lyriqs and 2026 Vistiqs whose battery-to-floor bolts may be missing or loose; it counted 53. Run your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy a crashed Lyriq, or one whose battery is dead?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, electric ones included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us what happened, whether it powers on, and where it's parked.
- Can I sell a Lyriq I still owe money on?
- Usually, yes. The lender's payoff comes out of the sale, and then the lender releases the title. Our guide on selling a car with a loan owed explains the steps.
